Chapter 17

“Ciara,” Jane said, walking into our dorm room. I'd come back from dinner a little early to try and get my homework done since coronation is tomorrow.

“What's up Jane?” I asked without looking up from my homework.

“You have company,” she said. I looked up to see Jay standing in the doorway.

“Wanna go for a walk?” He asked.

“Yeah,” I said, standing up and leaving my books all over my desk. I had changed into blue plaid PJ pants and a tank top when I first got back, so I slipped a Auradon Prep hoodie on and walked outside with Jay.

“What's up?” I asked once we were out of earshot.

“i just want to talk to you,” he said.

“Why the sudden urge?” I asked.

“After tomorrow we are probably going back to the Isle. Mal is having a hard time adjusting,” he said. “Maleficent wants us to steal the wand.”

“Why?” I asked.

“Bend good and evil to her will,” he said, stuffing his hands in his pockets.

“Sounds about right,” I said. “Can't you say no?”

“Not an option with Mal being around,” he said.

“You do realize your parents aren't going to be able to get you here, right?” I asked, shoving my glasses back up onto my nose. Normally I wear contacts, but I was sick of them today so I traded them out for my glasses when I changed my clothes.

“I know,” Jay said. “She's been my friend forever. I need to stick with her on this one.”

“I just don't want to lose you again Jay,” I said, tears brimming in my eyes. My bottom lip quivered before I could even try to stop it, and Jay noticed.

“Come here, babe,” he said, wrapping his arms around me and holding me to his chest. “I'll be by your side all day tomorrow.”

“I know,” I said, trying to take deep breaths and steady myself.

After I calmed down, Jay walked me back to my dorm and told me he'd pick me up at 1:30 tomorrow afternoon for coronation.
