Chapter 29

The next Monday, I showed up at Fairy Godmother’s office, and was greeted by my parents. Jay was with me, but he had to make it to class.

“Go. I'll be fine,” I said.

“I have my phone on. Call me if you need anything,” he said, hugging me.

“Pay attention to class. You need to get good grades,” I said. I felt him kiss the top of my head.

“Bye, beautiful,” he said. “I love you.”

“I love you too, Jay,” I said. He walked off to get to class, and my parents were glaring at me.

“You went back to the Isle?” My mother asked. My dad is definitely the calmer of the two.

“Ben was going with or without us. There's safety in numbers,” I said, almost shrugging it off.

“So you risked your life and the future of this kingdom for some girl,” my mother asked. She was growing increasingly angry, and luckily Fairy Godmother ushered us into her office.

“Mom, I risked my life to save the king's,” I said. “If you can't accept that, so be it. That's what happened.”

“Let's just get this evaluation done,” my dad said. The day started off with blood testing. Then I had an MRI. Then x-rays. Everything was perfectly clear. There was absolutely nothing wrong with me.

“Well, there is one thing,” Fairy Godmother said.

“What could possibly be wrong?” I asked.

“The magic is completely gone,” she said. “You have to come in for check ups every six months, but I think you'll be just fine.”

“That's amazing,” I said.

“No, it isn't,” my mother said. What happened to her? She used to be so much nicer.

“Why not?” I asked.

“What if it comes back?” She asked. “There's nothing stopping that from happening.”

“Mom, if it comes back we'll deal with it then. For now, let's just be happy that I'm okay,” I said.

“God, I'm just so worried about you,” she said.

“I know Mom, but you're going to have to accept that I'm growing up and that I'll be okay,” I said.

“I love you Ciara,” she said, hugging me.

“I love you too Mom,” I said. We said our goodbyes and my parents went back home to the castle, and I headed off to meet up with Jay.
