My mother always told me to never believe in an idea so much you would give your life for it; think for yourself and never trust everything they say to you. It wasn't really the most positive thing to tell a five year old child but our life wasn't very positive to begin with. Decades of hard labor under ruthless nobility had long taken the notion of optimism out from my mother's head. But as a five year old it didn't matter as long as I had my family and the freedom to run through the endless rows of wheat my people had gruelingly tilled, sowed, and harvested. Nothing seemed to really matter at that age as long as I felt safe. And despite seeing the scarred, hunched backs of the adults toil day in and day out, I did in fact feel safe. But the illusion of false security never does last.
