"Why'd you turn her down like that?" Beatrice whispered as we kept walking forward.
"I know her type."
"But at least give her a chance."  She said looking down.
I bit back my response. If I responded she would figure it out.
"Why are you so quiet?"
"No reason."
"Can I ask something?" She asked biting her lip.
"Shoot."
"Why'd you come as soon as she left."
"First of all she never left. She died-"
"Same thing." She said quickly.
"Second of all I was going to be here even if she didn't die"
"Oh....so do you-well-miss her." She asked timidly.
"No."
"What?!" She shrieked.
"I wasn't very fond of Lienna and plus I barely ever saw her. Why miss someone you barely knew?"
"Well. Can I tell you a story?"
I huffed. "Sure."
"Three months ago she got my diary and read from it. I was panicking. Panicking so much my anxiety started up."
"Wait but you're such a happy person."
"The happiest people tend to be the most depressed. It's been scientifically proven. But anyways." She took a deep breath. "Yeah she heart broke me. Yeah her group threw away a journal I had for years but I never forgot the way she was nice to me. When her little group left she stayed there. She looked back at me." She smiled. "She said that she didn't care but....I know she did."
"How?"
"Well. She had that look. I don think she remembers but we were friends in elementary. She was the nicest girl a person could meet. But she got swept up by the crowd."
That's when it hit me. Right  in the gut. I remembered the small little Beatrice. I nearly cried.
"But she gave me a few dollars told me I was good at writing and to get a new journal. Yeah she hurt me that day but at some moment I knew that she had that small speck of kindness. That small moment. That small gesture that supposedly had no feelings made my day." Her voice was shaky.
I wanted to hug her. Tell her I remembered. But I held my ground. I couldn't let it slip.
"Well.....I didn't know. Sorry."
"It's ok."
For the rest of the time we walked in silence.
