Searing pain fills my arm as he forces the tip over my shoulder. I try not to scream, I don't want to give him the satisfaction of it. Knowing he wasn't succeeding in making Deryn break, he forces the tip of the knife into the chair again, making sure it cut my hand this time. Then he yanks a pistol from his belt and points it at my temple. He turns to look at Deryn with a toothy grin on his face, knowing she would tell him now.
"No! No don't kill him!" she gasped. "I'll tell you, just don't kill him!"
