"Okay, let's start of on the basic things that you still don't know"
It's friday after school, and I'm here tutoring Levin instead of being with my friends. We're at a park just near our school sitting on a table bench.
"Okay so, what don't you get?" I started the conversation.
"Um... everything..." he said with a grin.
"Oh boy" I put my palm on my face and took a deep breath.
Remind me again why I agreed on doing this? Oh yes, that's right, I wanted free breakfast and lunch.
"Okay Ms. Olivia Ramsey, I'm all ears" he started grabbing a book and started reading it.
I started explaining to him the basics and he surprisingly got it the second time I explained it.
-----30 minutes later-------
"okay, break time" he indicated.
"What? it's only been thirty minutes and you've only done 5 problems," I answered.
"5 problems with like ten steps. Please? Just for ten minutes?" he insisted
"Three. There's exactly three steps on each problems," I corrected.
"But fine, I'm also tired. Let's take ten," I had a really hard time on my AP Psychology class today so, I won't mind taking a break from tutoring.
I laid on the seat of the bench and started closing my eyes and just felt the nice breeze on my skin. Meanwhile, I think Levin started using his phone. I asked him to put it in his bag cause it will just be a distraction. So when he had the 10 minute break, he was just so eager to check it already.
Shortly, I heard Levin calling my name. What now?!
"Umm... Olivia? Come look at this."
I hesitated to answer him and thought about pretending to be asleep, but he kept calling my name. I stood up and coldly asked him, "what?!"
He showed me his phone. It's "@ WestHighMemes" where they post "funny" things that are happening in our school. I was stunned by what I saw. It's us, Danielle, Maine and I, laughing at starbucks with a caption, "I wonder who's third wheeling... or maybe it's a three way street? lol."
I got so mad that I grabbed Levin's phone and started reading comments. They were nasty. I couldn't help my tears from falling down.
"Hey are you okay? Just ignore those, don't worry, I'll report the page and report it to the office as well." I didn't answer but he could hear me sniffing. He placed his hand on my shoulder and turned me so I would be facing him.
He was speechless as he saw my tears gathered and dropped from my eye. "Hey, stop..." he said with a soft voice. I didn't answer and my tears still continued to fall. I looked down and gave him his phone. I was shocked when I felt a sudden touch on my chin. He raised my head towards him and wiped my tears using his hands.
"Does everyone in our school believe that?" I asked.
"What?" He sounded confused.
"Answer my question please," I said as more tears fell from my eyes.
He stuttered at first, "People... are... talking about it." I let out a deep sigh and I started crying even more.
"But! I didn't thought they would do this to you guys. I thought they were just plain rumors that will eventually go away in like couple of days."
"Oh my god..." I said not knowing what to say.
"I'm sorry, Olivia," he said placing his hand on my shoulder and started rubbing it.
"Do you believe it? Do you believe that we're gays?" I said while looking back at him.
"What? of course not. I've known you since 8th grade, and if it was even true, it would've never mattered to me. We're still gonna be friends," he was very reassuring.
"Please stop crying... Okay, let's just end the tutoring here for now. Go get some rest, I can drop you off at your house," he offered.
"Um... I'm just gonna stay here for a while. You can go first."
"I'll stay," like he said, he stayed there, without saying anything, he just stayed and watched me cry. He just sat there unbothered.
I have finally said something by the time I have composed myself, "I'm okay now, you can go if you want to."
He smiled and started humming a song.
"What are you doing?" I asked him with confusion.
"My mom told me that when I'm sad or when someone is sad, just be with them and start singing softly when they've finally calmed themselves down," he explained.
"Ahh..." I said wiping the residue of tears on my cheeks.
He looked at me and smiled and continued humming.
By the time he finished the song, he asked me something.
"So, what's your plan?"
"Live under a rock? Move to another country? Let the earth eat me alive? The list goes on," I answered sarcastically but sort of meant it.
"Ha-ha very funny. You know you should just tell them that you're not what they think you are."
"Trust me, I've tried."
"Just remember, I'm always here to back you up."
I smiled at him and quietness arose between us for couple of minutes. Until I had this idea.
"We should date!" I exclaimed.
"What?" he answered.
