"Sophie!!" I heard Edaline call me from outside my door.
"Don't come in!" I yelled in a panic. Then I quickly ran to my bedroom door and closed it. "What do you need, Mom?"
"Just wanted to say that Grady and I are taking off." Edaline shouted back. "See you in a while, sweetie."
Oh, yeah. Edaline and Grady were leaving for Atlantis today, and they wouldn't be home for two days. That was plenty of alone time. And then there was the matter of Fitz coming to Calla's tree tonight. I wouldn't even need to sneak out.
"'K, bye!" I yelled. I listened to the fading clicks of Edaline's heels down the hallway. Letting out a sigh of relief, I double checked my appearance in the mirror.
"Darling, you actually look lovely. Stop worrying," Vertina chided.
I shrugged, then said, "But it's Fitz. I have to different."
"Honey," Vertina shook a tiny finger at me. "If Fitz wants you for someone that you aren't, then he isn't right for you. Don't try to look different. Be yourself. That's what he should want."
I blushed. "That's really smart, Vertina."
I don't think metal mirrors can blush, but Vertina definitely changed color.
"Anyway, Sophie," she said, "Are you all ready?"
I nodded and sighed, "As ready as I'll ever be."
"Then go on," Vertina smiled widely. "And you have to tell me everything."
"VERTINA!" I exclaimed.
Vertina chuckled, and I walked out the door.
Unfortunately, I didn't know just what I was walking into.
