THUNDER BOOMS OVER MY HEAD, LIGHTNING LIGHTS UP THE DARK NIGHT SKY, RAIN SOAKS ME.
I can hear animals howling and lurking in the perimeter. I feel eyes on me. A different sort of animal is watching. I feel my legs take off before I can even register that I am running. Running for my life.
I am in a dark forest, where even the stars aren't shining through. The only glimpse of surroundings I get is when the lightning strikes from above.
I am drenched and shivering, cold to my very bones. I don't know where I'm running, or what I am running from. I feel like I must run though, keep running.
Somethings coming.
Something is coming for me.
Running through the never-ending trees, I close my eyes trying to convince myself that this is all just one big nightmare. I will wake up, and everything will be fine.
As I open my eyes again, only to realize that this isn't a dream, I am still running. I'm out of breath, and can feel my lungs on fire. My hair is hanging in wet, clumped strands in my face; making it even harder to see.
But I keep going, as if my life depends on it.
I look straight ahead, seeing nothing but darkness. Then, like a prayer answered by God, lightening illuminates the sky, allowing me to briefly see where I am running to.
I am going straight into the outstretched arms of a dark, shadowy figure. I can't even stop myself. As much as it is frightening, it is comforting. Whatever I am running from is behind me. It could't be in front of me. I willingly jump into the figures embrace, and feel myself quiver and break down into tears, practically hyperventilating.
I am safe. This person will protect me.
No more running.
But there is still something, or someone out there after me.
A hand brushes my drenched hair out of my face, while putting me down on my own two feet. I still can't really focus on what is happening, i'm just so wet, so cold. I can barely see right, so much water dripping into my eyes. A continuous stream of tears escaping my tear ducts, at the same time.
My rescuer takes off his thick sweater and wraps it around me like a blanket. Next, he takes off his dark long-sleeved shirt and starts patting my arms and face dry. Then he takes it to my hair, and wraps it firmly in a twist, on top of my head.
I feel much better already, but still unable to control the deep, intense shivers that rattle my bones. My teeth are clattering, and I think he can hear them, because he starts rubbing my arms. Up and down, up and down, continuing on like this for what seems like hours.
The numbness has started to fade, and I can see clearly now. I have been looking down at the muddy forest ground, but now I have the little strength to carry my head up. As I start, I notice his designer dark navy jeans, and I slowly make my way up to his bare abdomen.
His tight, soaked, abdomen.
Forcing myself to continue, I trail my eyes upwards reaching his face.
Even his face is muscular.
Tight jaw line, leading up to incredible dark, midnight eyes.
