Chapter 6 - Competitions

Rainbow Dash's POV

A day later...
The storm went away and we're finally able to go outside, thank god. I wouldn't say it was boring being in a tent for like two days straight because AJ was with me. It gave me some time to relax and think about stuff.

Oh yeah, I also realized that I might be in love with Applejack. I'm hoping this is just a phase like I've said before because I really don't want feelings towards anyone. It's a distraction and I hate being rejected.

Love is just not my thing. It's for hopeless romantics like Rarity. Now that I think of it, I've never really had a crush on anyone and I want it to stay that way. Besides, I'm busy with high school, sports, ect and love will just get in the way.

I'm currently laying down in my bed while listening to my favorite band, the wonderbolts. Applejack and Rarity went to go do something that I don't remember about.

I decide to take a nap.

As I start to close my eyes, I hear, "HEYY, DASHIE"

I jump in surprise. "Pinkie, you scared me" I say angrily.

"Oopsie sorry. Come outside! We're having a competition on who's the fastest runner and the strongest in all of Canterlot High. I'm sure you wanna be part of it!" says the pink haired girl with her big smile.

"A competition huh? I'm in!" I say as I get up from my bed and walk outside. I could hear Pinkie squealing inside.

Everyone is circling around where the competition is happening, making it hard to see. Once I got a better view, I saw Sunset Shimmer and Applejack racing each other, Applejack obviously winning. She sure is fast. She ran to the finish line and everyone started cheering for her, including me.

Sunset Shimmer walked towards me and said, "Don't know why I even tried" while laughing.

I chuckle and say, "well you weren't bad but when you race against Applejack it's hard to win. I mean, except for me of course. I always win when I'm competing against Applejack"

"Wanna bet on that, sugarcube?" I hear the cowgirl say behind me.

I turn around and see her smiling at me with her arms crossed.

"Oh it's so on" I respond, smiling, "winner gets... um.."

"We'll decide on that later. I've got a race to win"

"Pffft" I reply while smiling at her.

We line up at the starting line and everyone is cheering for Applejack and I.

Pinkie counts down, "3.... 2.... 1.... GO!!!!"

We both ran as fast as possible away from the starting line. We're tied at the moment.

Applejack looks at me and says, "Sorry, Dash" as she begins so run faster ahead of me. There's no way I'm letting her beat me. I try my best to go faster but I've reached my speed limit.

I see her getting closer to the finish line and I try to think of something to do so she won't win but next thing you know she runs through the finish line, with me 5 seconds behind.

I hear everyone cheering and chanting "Applejack! Applejack! Applejack!"

I bend down and put my hands on my knees to catch my breath. "What did I tell ya" AJ says, giving me a hard pat on the back causing me to lose my balance.

"Sorry" she says as she holds her hand out to help me get up. I don't grab it and get up myself.

I can't believe I lost. I'm pretty pissed.

Applejack was about to say something but I interrupted her by saying, "You won because you cheated!" I yell at her.

I heard everyone gasp in the back.

Applejack took a step back and defended herself by saying, "I did not cheat! I won fair and square! You're just mad because ya lost!"

Everyone is giggling in the back. Fluttershy comes up and tells me, "that's right. We all saw Applejack win without cheating. Don't blame her for something she didn't do"

Pinkie Pie and Rarity come up as well and agree with what Fluttershy said.

"Fine! Take sides then!" I yell as I walk away.

"Rainbow Dash!" yells Rarity behind me.

"Don't even try. Nothin's gonna get through her thick skull. She can't handle losing" I hear Applejack say.

I turn around and say, "excuuuuse me?"

"Ya heard me. Ya can't handle losing. Ya act like a child" replies Applejack with her arms crossed.

I walk towards her and face her, face to face. We stare at each other for a few seconds. I look into her lime green eyes and feel something inside of me that I can't explain. My heart was beating fast. I try ignoring it.

I cross my arms as well and say, "fine you won"

She smiled at me and I smiled back. She pulled me in for a hug and I know I was blushing. I felt the heat in my cheeks.

"YAY!!" yells Pinkie Pie as she hugged us both.
"Hey! I have an idea! Do you guys wanna come over to my tent and have a slumber tent party?" Asks the loud girl, looking at our group of friends. We all agreed and went to our tents to get some stuff we might need such as blankets and pillows.

While I was getting my sleeping back and pillow, Applejack asked, "why do ya always get so upset when you lose?" while packing a few things.

I stop what I was doing and look at her.

"I- I'm not sure," I reply. I've never actually thought of that before. "I guess I just don't wanna seem like a failure" I admit.

"Rainbow, ya are not a failure. Losin' a race doesn't make ya one and neither will anythin' else" assures me the sweet accent.

"Thanks, AJ" I smile at her. She smiled back.

"Well let's get goin'" she says and we both walk to Pinkie and Rarity's tent.

I'm glad AJ is my friend. We have small arguments now and then but I love how we always make up. It makes our friendship stronger. I hope our friendship lasts forever.
