Abby
Sunday, June 2
I walked into my sister's room. She was still asleep so I curled up on her bed. I would never get nightmares at the hotel, but here something gave me the chills. Em stirred so I stayed as still as possible, trying not to wake her. It was early and the sun was about to come up. My room was right below the attic, the door was just outside my room.
I had had a nightmare about a strange man living upstairs, I couldn't tell anybody; they were all asleep. The house looked so much cooler outside in the light, but in the dark it was like a haunted mansion. It was half past six when I heard my mom stir. She went downstairs for her coffee and newspaper. I got up from Emily's bed and tip toed down the stairs. Nobody else was awake, so I ran into the kitchen, knocking into my mom.
"Woah Abby, what's wrong?", she asked.
"I had a nightmare. It was about the man who lives upstairs," I quietly replied.
"Oh that silly tale your father told you! That was only an old wives tale parents would tell their children so they wouldn't go poking around in things they weren't supposed to! Oh sweetie, are you ok", my mom seemed different. Normally she's happy and energetic. Today she seemed tired, older than she is. She had dark circles hanging beneath her hazel eyes, and her brown hair was tied up in a knot. My dad came downstairs with Emily and our dog, Quinnly. Mom started breakfast and we sat down eagerly awaiting Sunday pancakes.
