Yesterday, Em told me the hole in my ceiling and mom and dad being weird was just a bad dream. I didn't believe her. I couldn't, it all seemed too real for it to be a dream. But mom and dad were back to normal, so I pushed it to the back of my mind and thought of something else. Damien. He was this kid back in PA. We had been friends for so long, but now I was beginning to feel something for him. Every time he came near me, his smile made my tummy flutter and when his hand grazed mine my heart crashed in my chest. I missed him so much, even though I'd only been gone for two days. I tried to call him yesterday, right before the incident. That why I think it's so real, because I tried to call him. But there was no service so the call didn't go through.
Mom and dad had been at the store, and Em was scared out of her mind trying to find them. She'd gone down to town and left me a note.
Anyway, today was different, we went down to the beach and stayed there all day. We went out for dinner and ice cream, and Em, dad, and I laughed about the other night when we'd snuck out. Mom looked confused but we didn't tell her anything. We just laughed and ate our ice cream.
We got home and Em and I stayed up while dad and mom went to bed. We were just watching some tv when another loud bang made us both jump. We looked at each other with fear in our eyes. "I knew it wasn't a bad dream. You lied!!" I yelled at my twin sister. We ran up the stairs looking for mom and dad. "Quinnly", Emily shouted. He came running out of mom and dad's room whining. I went downstairs with him while Em went to check out the room. "Abby! Come quick! Hurry", she sounded worried so I ran upstairs to see what was wrong. Dad was laying on the ground, presumably dead. Mom was kneeling beside him, trying to wake him up. She was crying. Em was next to her comforting, asking what happened. "He was walking to the door to get you girls, I don't know why. He said he n-needed you for something. The ceiling fell down on him, and he won't wake up now", she said in between sobs. Dad still wasn't waking up. Mom called the police.
Em was in her room crying. She had locked the door, so I couldn't get in. I think dad's... I couldn't even finish my own thought. I ran into my room sobbing hysterically. The police said they'd arrived too late. Mom drove with the ambulance back to the hospital, but they couldn't do anything either. Em and I stayed home, hoping somehow he would survive. "Em, everything will be alright. Dad will be alright".
"How do you know? The ceiling crashed on top of him", she said. Her hair was sticking to her face where she had been crying. I patted her back and walked out of the room.
"This is all my fault".
