Emily

Sunday, June 2

I ran upstairs following the loud noise. I heard Abby scream and then another loud bang. I got to the top of the long staircase and the stopped. Abby came running out of her room and into my arms. "What happened? What did you do!" I said. She was crying I let her go and ran into her room. In the ceiling was a giant hole. It was stained red by I don't even know. I looked further in and saw a ladder. I pulled it down and climbed inside the attic. I looked around and saw nothing but old boxes with faded word's and old mattresses. I sat down and my heartbeat got back to normal. A second later, Abby appeared. She had tear stained cheeks and and eyes were all red and puffy. I asked what happened and she still didn't respond. "I want mommy", she said. I could tell she was scared. Her voice was quiet and she was shaking. I took her into my room and told her to rest. She fell asleep shortly after and I left a note on my bed-side table saying I would be back for lunch. I left the house and walked to the town. It was three miles away so I didn't have much trouble getting there. It was derelect town, not many people were out and some stores had been shut down for what seemed like years. I ran to the police station and saw one officer. I ran up to him and told him what happened. He called someone and two minutes later, another officer walked out and he took me to his car. We drove back to the house and I showed him Abbys room. But there was nothing there. The hole was gone and there was no trace that it had ever happened. "My parents. I need to call them but I don't have service", I said. "Are you sure? Check your phone, sweetheart". I flinched. I hated it when strangers called me 'sweetheart'. I glanced at my phone and saw I had full service. What the hell is going on? I thought. I called my mom and she had been at the store the whole time. I confronted her in saying things like why didn't she tell us where she was going? Why didn't dad stay here? She said she would explain everything when she got home. The officer left and mom and dad came home. Abby was still asleep so I woke her and she and I went downstairs. Mom told us she was getting food and dad needed to run a couple errands. She had thought we were tired because we left breakfast early, and thought we had gone back to bed. I closed my eyes and leaned back on the couch, deciding I wouldn't tell them about the hole. I walked back upstairs with Abby following close behind. "Why didn't you tell them about the hole?" I thought it best not to scare her as we still had two weeks left of vacation. I had told her it was just a bad dream and that she fell asleep in my bed last night.
