The skies were glistening with the bright white stars which looked down on the frostbitten trees. They stood together as a pack, sheltering in the cold wind. Mountains loomed above the forest, leaning threateningly over the chilly trees. It was fast becoming a cold winter night.

It should not have been hard for Jade and Catherine to wander into the thickening dead forest without the heaps of snow covering their path, good thing the moon wasn’t covered by thick clouds so they can hazily see their way. Temperature began to drop as time passed by and they’re clinging onto their wool coats and caps for warmth.

Jade, wearing a dark blue coat is walking faster than Catherine because of her slim figure and tall height. Jade didn’t mind that her hood was down already exposing her shoulder-length black hair. Although she cannot see better in the dark unlike her companion she’s very skillful in tracking.

“I can’t seem to find anymore tracks.” She called out to Catherine when they reached a wide clearing. Her bright blue eyes began to search for other ones but they seem to have been covered by snow. The ones she followed was already faint, it was all thanks to her skill they were able to go this far.

“Whew. You walk so fast!” Catherine exclaimed and caught her breath. The hood of her red coat was also down exposing her wavy auburn hair which was tied into low pigtails. Realizing this, Cathy put her hood back on as well as Jade’s. Jade smiled at her gesture.

“You’re just too heavy for trekking.” Jade teased.  “Now, do your work vampire bat.” She said stepping out of her way. Catherine pouted at this remark. She is can admit than she is slightly plump than Jade but she can really run fast if she wanted to.

There is no time for arguing so she observed their location. “We’re at a cliff.” She walked a little further to see what’s down and where it leads but cold wind began to blow and the snow covered her view.

“Argh.” She said rubbing her apple green eyes. “I think I saw a town down there.”

“Well, how do we go down?”

Cathy shrugged. “I don’t know.  You’re good at tracking.”

“I didn’t say I have the skills to fly us down there.” Jade replied with a hint of sarcasm.

Catherine started to go near the cliff. She slightly shivered and Jade smirked because she knew Cathy is afraid of heights. “I think these rocks are not that steep.” She faced Jade and caught sight of her smirk.

“Why are you smiling?” she raised a brow.

“Nothing. Just fancy seeing you scared.” Jade teased and began to follow her.

“Well, I am going down now.” She said irritably. “with or without your co-.. Ack!”

Catherine’s foot slipped out of the iced stone and is about to stumble down the rocky rubble but she was able to grip onto a rock. Catherine tried to step onto another rock but it only gave way. “I guess it’s much more dangerous than steep.” She mumbled to herself.

“Cathy!” Jade exclaimed. “You okay?” she looked at her worriedly and began reaching out her hand. “Here, grab my hand!”

Catherine tried to reach it but it was farther than she expected. “I can’t!”

Jade began to look around. “Hang in there! I’ll look for wood or something. Just- just hold on. Okay?”

“Okay!” Cathy yelled. “Hurry!”

Jade is about to run back into the forest but she saw glowing eyes, not just a pair, one, two, three... six pairs of glowing eyes. Cold winds began to blow again and as her vision made sense she saw six wolves closing into her.

She cursed as she tried to step to her side trying to make a way out of their trap. If she can outrun these creatures then she can return to Catherine as soon as possible. Only if she holds on that long. But luck is not on her side, suddenly Catherine yells.

“Jade! You there? I can’t hold on this.. long.” She can hear her desperation and panic. The wolves seemed to have noticed her scare and they began to growl and howl.

“Jade?” Cathy asked realizing what was happening above.

“It’s okay, Cathy. I’m here. They won’t hurt you.”

“Jade! Just run!” Cathy exclaimed.

“No, I won’t.” But the growling continued and Jade already reached the end of the cliff. The wolves began to be aggressive, enclosing her more and Jade fought them back by yelling at them but it didn’t stop them. A wolf was about to jump onto her and Jade waited for the impact.

Strong winter wind blew onto her and she wished it will save her from inevitable death.

“STAY BACK!” A guy voice echoed out of nowhere. The wolves whimpered so Jade began to open her eyes. Before her, is a tall guy with white hair and pale skin, he is wearing blue hooded sweater, frost collecting around the ring of its collar, he’s wearing trousers and barefooted. The guy is holding a staff with a G-shaped arch and is standing confidently not minding the cold. It is no other than Jack Frost himself.

“Bad dogs! These ladies are not your food.” He leaped near them and waved his staff. Small heap of snow blew onto the wolves which they eagerly shook off. “Have this instead.” He threw what seemed to be sugar cubes from his pockets and the wolves hastily ate it. “Now go!” he tapped his staff on the ground releasing dust of snow and the wolves scuffled away.

“A little help here!” Jade called out to Jack. At first, Jack looked at her confusedly but she glared at him. “Come on! Saving another won’t be that bad!”

Jack didn’t argue anymore and looked down the cliff. Catherine gasped forgetting that she needs to hold on. “Cathy!” Jade screamed.

Jack flew fast enough to catch Catherine before she reached the stone rubble. “Jack Frost!?” she questioningly exclaimed. Jack brought her up again and set her down much farther away from the cliff.

Jade run and hugged her tightly. “You idiot! You scared me to life there.” Jade said, her voice was rough as if she is on the verge of crying. “Don’t tell me. I’m gonna make you cry?” she teased but she hugged her back. “I’m glad we’re both safe.” Cathy continued.

Jack cleared his throat and said “I hate to break the moment, ladies but how can you see me?”

Jade let go of Cathy and glared at Jack. “We have eyes.” Then, she walked off.

Jack looked at Cathy but she just shrugged and walked near him. She flashed her sweetest smile. “Thank you, Jack. Maybe this is not enough but it’s all I can give.” She hugged Jack for a moment and instantly let him go. “and I believe you know the answer.” She said emphasizing in the “I believe you” part. Jack grinned and scratched the back of his neck and mumbled thanks.

“Cathy! Come on!” Jade commanded.

“You want to come along?” Cathy asked Jack but he looked unsure. “Oh. Don’t mind Jade. That’s how she thanks people.” Cathy chuckled. “So, would you want some company for a while?”

“Yeah. I’d like company.” Jack followed the two ladies.
