Dani who was in my PDC class, stopped texting on her phone, looked up and her mouth dropped.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Woah!! Who's the new teacher?? He's FIT!!"

The whole class burst into laughter. Dani had a reputation for being the biggest loud mouth at school and one of the girls who always had her arm linked through a new guys everyday. The new teacher ignored her and continued unpacking his bag on to his desk. Dani just stared at him and all around the classroom were groups of girls whispering and giggling, glancing in his direction. I heard groans from most of the boys in my class and found myself smiling. This should be a very interesting class today. The whispering stopped as our new teacher spun around.

"Ok, first things first, my name is Mr Thomas. I don't take no shit from stupid teenagers and I'm only here because I have no choice. If you stay out of my way, I'll stay out if yours...got it??"

The class sat in a stunned silence whilst Mr Thomas sat on his desk and smiled.

"Now that was not the right way to introduce myself was it??"

Still not getting any response from any of us, he continued.

"The first sentence you ever say to someone will be the way you present yourself. What I'm trying to say is, first impressions count!"

Woah. I sat there staring in amazement at our new teacher. He really was quite a character and he was now currently telling some really crap jokes to some of the people in the front row. One of the people at the front was Freddie. The notorious bad boy at our school. He sat rocking on his chair smirking at Mr Thomas.

"What a prat!"

Mr Thomas turned around and walked over to Freddie.

"Name?"

Freddie stood up and leaned towards Mr Thomas.

"Freddie.....and you'll do a good job to remember that."

Mr Thomas didn't seem phased. He stood up and clasped his hands together.

"Oh don't worry, I don't intend to forget it. I have a feeling I'll need to remember it for detention slips."

Freddie's smirk quickly disappeared and in its place now shone the deadliest of glares.

"Listen up man, you're new so I'll let you off this time, but next time you try and make me look stupid in front of these idiots, you're gonna be sorry."

Mr Thomas looked pensive and began to stroke his goaty.

"Ya know kid, back in the day when I was at high school, I was just like you. I was one of the notorious bad boys who always got the hot chicks and I was the guy that everyone looked up at. Something happened though and I realized that being the biggest jerk in school and getting low grades wasn't gonna get me anywhere in life. So I did something about it! I quickly bucked up my ideas and settled down to study. My time wasn't taken up by meaningless flings or stupid parties anymore and I learned a great deal when I sat and listened. I changed my life because I thought I could do better, and kid I'm telling you now, one day you'll be thankful that you listened to this."

Once again the whole class was silent and the only thing that could be heard was the steady breathing of 30 kids. I sat back in my chair and tried to figure out what the expression on Freddie's face was. Was it shock? Anger? Realization? No it definitely wasn't the latter. Although Mr Thomas's speech was spoken to Freddie, I couldn't help but feel that it had had an affect on more than just him. To be honest even I felt like I needed to change something or that something was about to change.

The bell rang to signal the end of the day and we all filed out of PDC pretty silently. Never before had a PDC lesson had so much impact on a bunch of teenagers, and I was kinda glad about what had happened that lesson. Finally a teacher had been able to stand up to Freddie. I could tell Mr Thomas was gonna be a good teacher, it was a kind of gut feeling. I shrugged on my hoodie and went to find Imogen.
