24: Captured

Jeff and I run from the homes, laughing up a storm as the man chases us and fires his pistol wildly at us. Jeff and I easily dodge the bullets that actually get close to us, most fly past us and hit cars and other homes instead. Our car isn't far from here, just a few more blocks up. Covered head to toe in blood, blades in hand, we mock the man as we run away, leaving him behind with his dead family.

This is the norm for us. We often find ourselves running from the police. Jeff and I know we're being sloppy, but we're having fun. As long as we stay one step ahead of what we have come to call Hunters we will always get away. We just have to keep moving, and always try to keep them guessing. They've gotten close once about a year back, but a boy named Ben, one of Jeff's friends, let us know before the Hunters got there chance to trap us.

It's been about three years since I had become a monster. Jeff and I killed side by side almost every night now, though it isn't uncommon for us to split up and take on different towns. We never went far from each other, and we're never away from each other for more than a night. We traveled together, killed together, do everything together.

Sirens wail from several different directions. Jeff curses, looking around at all the different roads the police seem to be coming from. The red and blue lights seem to come from every nearby street. I groan and pick up my pace, jumping into the drivers seat of our car. Jeff waste no time in seating down beside me as I start up the car. I speed off down the street, doing my best to avoid any road a police officer on. They're trying to surround us, they were clearly waiting for us.

I leave suburbs, hitting a main road and taking off. The road is empty, likely since it's so late at night, making escape all that easier. But the cops have no problem keeping up.

"How many?" I ask Jeff, trying to keep my focus on the road. I'm doing about 70 mph now, and quickly gaining speed.

"Six from what I can see," Jeff informs me, "But who knows if there's more waiting around another corner."

I push the pedal down even further until it hits the floor. I've had a lot of practice now driving at high speeds like this, but this car isn't made for this. Who knows how much this car can take. Jeff grabs the gun from the back of the car, loading it and sticking his body out the window. He fires at the cops, while I focus on keeping the car stable so he doesn't fall out. And yes, that has happened before.

Ten minutes later and we've only managed to drop two of the chasing police cars. The car will overheat if we don't lose them soon. I'm not too worried about it, escaping the police on foot isn't hard either. If nothing else will kill them all off then escape before backup catches up.

"On your left," Jeff warns me as he continues to fire at the tires of the police cars. I look over to my left and sure enough one of the police cars has caught up with me and is on my side.

"He's gonna ram us, Jeff," I say, pulling on Jeff's coat to get his attention, "Take him out first."
Listening to my command, Jeff crawls into the back seat behind me and fires at the car from there. The officer waste no more time and slams into the side of the car.

"Fuck!" I shout. Smoke begins to rise from the engine, the car can't take much more.

Jeff pops one of the tires, but the officer has decided he's taking us out with him. He rams our car once more, much harder than before, and sends us flying off the road.

We fly down a large hill, smacking smaller trees the entire way but none were strong enough to stop us. I slam both feet down on the brakes, hoping to slow us down before the impact. Jeff crawls up front with me, grabbing a hold of my hand and squeezing it. The crash can't kill us, but it's still going to hurt.
