Jeff lays next to me, sleeping peacefully. Every now and then he snores softly. I can't sleep though. My mind stays on Jeff's request, keeping me awake with wild thoughts. Can I even do it? They're my parents..
I look at Jeff's sleeping face, he looks so relaxed. He protects me. He cares about me, way more than my parents ever seemed too. He loves me, I love him. I should do this. For him. My parents, they're part of my old life anyway. That's not me anymore. Still.. I'm struggling to convince myself.
I sit up, throwing my legs over the side of the bed. I steal a cigarette from Jeff's pack and light it up, along with a beer. God my head hurts, I thought hangovers didn't hit until you've slept and woken back up.
Only a few minutes later, Jeff wakes up. He sits up him, sitting behind me and wrapping his arms around me. He presses his bare chest again my bare back, kissing my neck softly before speaking.
"Sleep well?" He asks me.
I shake my head and say, "I didn't sleep."
"That's okay, you can sleep in the car. It's time to hit the road again," He tells me.
"Where to now?" I ask.
"Back to your home town," Jeff replies. He gets up and begins to get dressed. I follow his lead and get dressed too. "It'll take a little while, we'll make a couple stops, but it shouldn't take too long. Are you ready for what you have to do?"
"...No.." I tell him, looking away.
Jeff comes up behind me and wraps his arms around me. I let myself sink into his body, enjoying the comforting feeling.
"What's wrong?" Jeff asks me, speaking softly.
"I just.. their my parents," I tell him.
Jeff spins my around so I'm facing him, and leans down so that we are eye level. His gaze is soft, caring, unlike any look he has given me before. It was a whole new Jeff in front of me, and I loved him even more.
"Joey, what have they ever really done for you? Yeah, they feed you and housed you, but were they ever really their for you?" Jeff asks me. I look down, staring at our feet. "They never protected you. I saw how your mom acted after you meet me, she didn't even seem to care that you could've been hurt. And when that girl attacked you, all she did was yell at you. And your dad never stood up for you to him."
I nod my head, "Yeah, you're right."
"I bet they don't even miss you. I haven't heard anything about them trying to find you. I bet once we get back there we won't see any missing person posters," Jeff tells me, "They don't seem to care. I wouldn't treat you like that. If you went missing, I would do anything to find you. I would be searching day and night. I would crawl to the ends of the earth, and hurt anyone who got in my way. I wouldn't stop until you were in my arms again."
I smile and blush. Jeff places his hand under my chin, lifting my head up so I'm looking at him.
"I've taken bullets for you. And I'd do it again, even if I wasn't immortal. What have they done for you?" Jeff asks."Nothing," I reply.
"I want to be with you forever, but you have to do this for that to happened," Jeff says.
I nod my head in understanding, "I'll do it.""Good girl," Jeff says, kissing my forehead, "Now get ready. We leave at sunset."
I look out the window- the sun is already so close to setting. I take a drag of the cigarette in my hand before setting it aside and finishing getting dressed.
