here i am. holding her hand. in a hospital bed.
at 2:03 am.
i have not left.
and i don't plan on it.
Ethan walks in with some coffee and hands it me.
"Thanks." i say with a fake smile.
"anytime bro." he says.
we sit there in silence.
"i really loved her bro." i tell him, my voice cracking.
"and you don't have to stop. she can get through this. she's strong." ethan tells me.
"baby?" i hear and look over to see Mia slightly opening her eyes, looking around.
i look at Ethan, my eyes wide. I run up to her.
"hey hey babe, i'm here." i tell her quietly.
Just then the doctor walks in. He informs her about her illness and when she has to start chemotherapy. There were a lot of tears shed.
She was released from the hospital a day after.
We are on our way back to my house.
I have talked to her parents on the phone and we both agree it's better for her to stay with me for the time being.
i walk her into my bed room and we both sit on the bed.
"babe, i don't want to drag you into this. Now all i am is a ticking cancer time bomb. I can blow up at any second, and you'll be the there to pick up the pieces. the broken pieces of our hearts. I don't wish that on anyone." She tells me crying.
"Babe just stop. I love you. How many times do I have to tell you. I am never going anywhere. Think about it this way. If i left you my world would fall apart. I would not be able to think straight. Because i'm always thinkin bout u."
i say, a tear slips from my eye.
it's all true. all i do is think about her.
"it's hard to finally process the fact that someone loves you in this world. Something i really never had." she tells me.
"glad i can be that person." i tell her, as I kiss her.
"me to." she says with a smile, breaking the kiss.
//NEXT DAY
"Ethan i'm telling you i know what i'm doing." i inform Ethan.
"Gray why would you spend all this money on one ring." Ethan asks me.
Ok i'm not proposing. Calm down.
But i am buying Mia a promise ring.
a ring that only she can wear.
a ring only she deserves.
"because ethan. i love her. Like nobody I have ever dated. Like nobody I even had the slightest feelings for. We are going into our senior year. I need her to know that even after all the changes, when everyone graduates, has a life of there own. She is still mine. She will always be mine. She is just so perfect and I don't think there is any ring that will fit such a perfect girl like her. So i am going to buy the most expensive ring, and hope that will do." I tell him.
"Bro i'm glad you have her." he tells me.
"I am to." i tell him.
I bought the ring and text everyone in our friend group (besides Mia) in our group chat. I inform them about the night and the plan i had in mind. They all loved it, and agreed.
ETHANS POV
I walk into my apartment to find Mia on the couch eating ice cream, watching The Fault In Our Stars
god she needs this night.
"Hey M!" I say happily.
"Hey E." she tells me with a slight smile.
"So I thought I could take you to a party tonight!" I say excited.
"Isn't that my boyfriends job? You know, your twin brother. And i don't want to leave the house. Sorry E." she tells me.
"Well I'm your best friend, and during times like this, I have to cheer you up. So that's what I am going to do. And I am throwing the party, so it will be right here. You won't need to leave the house." I tell her. I big smile in my face.
she groans.
"fine. only because there will be food here." she says. I laugh.
"good." i say.
I then text everyone in the group chat saying faze 1 is done.
now it's time for faze 2.
