The cast of The Rising Sun was watching old episodes of "We got Married," starring Nichkhun and Victoria of f(x) in Barry's hotel room. Yaya's mum, Mae Pla, had gone to bed early. It was a rare break because harsh winter conditions in Japan didn't allow for filming that evening. They had sushi together and sampled a selection of Japanese craft beers. Slowly the crew and cast members left the room to rest. Yaya remained asleep in the sofa in front of the television and Barry was half asleep on the floor beside her. They had both sampled the drinks and were unusually passive and quiet all evening.
At the beginning of their trip not much had changed, he was still behaving like monkey on set and playing tricks on Yaya and everyone else. This time the crew had not taken it lying down and he found himself at the receiving end of Mario's revenge. Yaya seemed to have wised up to his tricks as well and sternly asked him regularly, "Do you really think this is amusing?" He was at a lost at how to react and became very sweet and gentle. He could see this change surprised her and she was putting her heart into acting the role as his wife so much so that he could easily see it becoming a reality.
Yaya stirred from her sleep and looked around.
"Where is everyone?" she asked sleepily.
"Gone to their rooms to rest," he answered patting the floor beside him. She joined him and watched Nichkhun and Victoria pose for a wedding photograph.
"He is really friendly and easy to work with," commented Yaya innocently. They had advertised for Brands Essence of Chicken together.
"Um," grunted Barry not in the mood.
"Is their marriage real or fantasy? On one hand, it is a variety show so everyone knows it is fantasy, on the other hand they are themselves and respond from the heart so everyone wants it to be real. What about us?" asked Yaya brave from the craft beer.
"Well, Mayumi and Ryu are in an arranged marriage, in many ways they have no choice in the matter. At the end of part one, they do fall in love with each other and prepare themselves to be good partners in marriage," said Nadech sleepily.
"You know I don't mean our screen characters, I mean us....." responded Yaya knowing he was stalling in order to think.
"Apart from our first lakorn, in all our lakorns circumstances brought the couple together and they fell for each other passionately. With Saichon, it was even more complicated because for him their love was a reality but for Nang Fa, he was pushing her to live in his fantasy. In the end, their love was a reality too. Maybe if we want the fantasy to be real, it can be. I know my emotions are real," said Barry almost to himself.
"What if we continue to play out our role as fantasy couple but I find the years have passed and I land up single without any children?" asked Yaya surprised at the directness of her own words.
"How about we promise each other that when I turn 28, and if we still haven't found anyone we love more than each other, we'll get married?" said Barry staring hard at the television screen but not watching.
"Okay, let's do that. But it sounds so unromantic, sometimes I feel like I'm living in the Truman show," her lips went into a pout.
"Of course, there is more romantic way that isn't scientific but might help you sort out whether you are in love with me or not," said Barry slowly.
"With rose petals?" asked Yaya. Barry shook his head slowly. "Okay, let's try that then," replied Yaya eagerly.
"Okay, but you must promise not to get upset with me afterwards," said Barry in a strange voice.
"Okay, I promise," said Yaya gazing at him.
"Come here then," said Barry softly and swooped down to kiss her. It was nothing like what they had done before in front of the camera. She melted into him and almost stopped breathing.
They stopped to catch their breath and smiled at each other. Yup that confirmed it. They knew this wasn't fantasy; this was real. They closed in for another kiss. While they were lost in the heat of the moment, they heard the door slam. They shot apart and looked up to see Yaya's mum, standing at the doorway glaring at them.
Yaya stood up immediately, with her body she shielded him from her mum, saying quickly, "I kissed him, mum. It's not his fault."
Her mum grabbed her hand and yanked her away, slamming the door behind them. Barry bent over and clutched his hair in anguish. What would happen to them now?
