I was too stunned for words. I just stood there, mouth gaping, eyes wide. Mr. Banner's smile widened at my shocked expression.

"What do you think, Carbo?", he asked. I finally broke out of my stupor and tackled him with a hug. To think that anyone would ever do that for me was truly amazing.

"I take that as a yes, then." I broke free and smiled wider than I had ever smiled before. I was too happy to say a thing so I just nodded crazily. Mr. Banner laughed at my excitement. "Go pack your things then, girl!" I ran upstairs to the girls' dorms and whipped out my bag and few personal belongings.

"What do you think you're doing, Coal?", one of the girls sniggered. It was Annja, the girl who had made my life hell since I got out of the nursery. She was considered one of the prettiest girls in St. Adler's, with her strawberry-blond hair and blue eyes and it was only a matter of time before someone adopted her. I thought I would never be adopted before her, if ever, and I was rarely wrong. Apparently, I was wrong this time. I fixed her with a glare and let a very self-satisfied smirk play across my lips.

"I'm getting adopted,", I said smugly and the room exploded into chaos.

"Coal is getting adopted?" "Before Annja?" "What is going on?"

Annja's face turned red.

"Everyone shut up!", she shouted and the room quieted. She walked over where I was standing and looked down at me. "You're lying,", she hissed at me. "You're just running away." At first I had no idea how to reply to that. Then I began laughing. I laughed for a long time.

"Then what am I doing, Annja?", I laughed. "Do you really consider me that stupid?" I finished putting my few belongings in a bag and headed down the stairs. I noticed Annja and a few other girls following me. They really needed some convincing, huh? I stepped into the living room, a hoard of girls peeking over my shoulder.

"I'm ready to go, Mr. Banner,", I said happily. Mr. Banner stood up and smiled.

"Good, Carbo,", he said. "And you can call me Cedric from now on. No sir's or Mr. Banner's." I smiled.

"All right, Cedric." Then Cedric noticed all the astonished girls behind me.

"Are these your friends saying goodbye to you?", he asked. I glanced at them disdainfully.

"You could say that," Then Cedric took my hand and led me to his carriage that was pulled by two black mechanical horses with rubies for eyes. They were beautiful. As Cedric helped me into the carriage, I heard the gossiping whispers start.

"Cedric Banner? The Head Creator?"

Yes, I thought. I'm Cedric Banner's daughter now.
