We started off early this morning, walking through the shaded forest kept up cool and covered so no one could spot us from above.
Freya was keeping good pace, for a princess. I looked up at the canopy of leaves above us, the sun shone through some patches of the trees, giving the ground just enough light and warmth to survive. The warmth of a ray of sunlight caught my face and I smiled a little. We kept walking, I was just thinking about how much trouble we would be in if we were caught. I took a sigh, Freya's ears perked up and looked at me. I shook my head as to tell her to not worry and she smiled some.
I don't understand why she's so nice to me, especially after she learned the truth.. I kept glancing back at her. She was just happily walking with me. Did she not know that our lives were in danger? Or did she not care? How does she not care about her life? I shook my head again.
----
It has been a couple hours that we had been walking. We came back to the river not long after and just decided to follow it up hoping to find a town.
As I walked I watched the fish in the river swim around aimlessly. I admired them, not a care In the world. It was wonderful.
Suddenly I stopped in my tracks, pulling Freya behind me as I unsheathed my sword. An arrow whizzed right by me, right next to Freya's feet. Another was coming right at me, I quickly brought my sword up just in time to knock the Arrow away into the river. I looked around trying to pinpoint the exact location of the shooter. I caught a glimpse of a dark figure in a far off tree. I readied my sword and took off in the direction of the shooter.
Dodging arrows left and right I stayed course, crashing into the tree hard with my shoulder, making the being lose their balance and fall behind some bushes. I kept back there and pinned them to the ground, sword ready. Suddenly they flipped me. I struggled under their grip but to no avail. I could hear Freya running over to where the bushes are. I tried to call out to her but the person claimed their bow at me before I could say anything. I heard Freya come into the clearing, she was panting as she called out.
"Aleah no!"
I watched as my attacker paused. The hooded figure just sat there, staring at me. I blinked and looked at them.
"A-Aleah?" I heard a familiar voice sound from the hood. I looked harder into the hood, making out those Red Eyes I used to be so fond of.
"K-Kalista?!" I exclaimed, I watched her rip off her robe. Her still sitting on top of me. I studied her face, it was Kalista... those red eyes... her pale green hair, it's shorter than I remember.
"Ali!" She exclaimed in a cheery tone as she wrapped her arms around my neck, tackling me to the ground in an embrace. I smiled a little, resting one of my hands on her back and used the other one as a prop.
"H-Hey Kalista." I said softly as she looked up at me, smiling happily.
"Where have you been all this time?! When I was ordered to kill a runaway princess I didn't know you were her guard!" She gasped "why are you her guard?! We kill royals! Not protect them!"
"Y-yeah well..." I rubbed the back of my head now. Kalista's gaze seemed to grow confused and then she shot a look at Freya. She got up off of me and walked over to Freya. Placing her hands on her hip.
"So tell me..." she began, oh no.
"How is it that our greatest assassin in the whole Council is now running around Rogue trying to protect a half-breed princess? Did you cast a spell on her? Are you blackmailing her?" She leaned in to Freya a little, hands still on hips.
"What are you to Aleah?" She asked, smirking.
Freya seemed to be a mixture of Confused and flustered. Poor girl, Kalista has a way of wording things weirdly to make people nervous. I wish I had that skill. I stood up and walked over to the two, working in between them.
"Alright alright, let me introduce you two, how about that?"
I watched Kalista's face turn from a sly smirk to a happy and chipper smile in an instant, she always did get super happy whenever I did practically anything really. I sighed a little and stood next to Freya.
"Princess, this is Kalista Dracona. She is the best Archer at The Council." I turned to Freya who just nodded and bowed politely. I continued.
"And Kalista, this is Freya. Only heir to the Wolf Half-Breed throne."
Kalista nodded, placing a hand on her hip and shifting her weight to one side. She looked like she was pouting.
"What?" I asked her. She let out a sigh as she spoke.
"Aleah you always were terrible at telling people the whole story." I watched her shoot her gaze to Freya.
"I'm Aleah's lover~"
My whole body stiffened, I watched Freya's mind start to whirl. What was she thinking about now?
I cleared my throat.
"Ex-lover..."
I heard Kalista groan.
"Can you quit with the Ex thing already?! You know we are meant to be together!"
I couldn't deny that I still had feelings for Kalista but nothing I would want to move on.
Don't get me wrong, she's pretty. Nice body, nice face, amazing eyes. But...
I glanced at Freya.
I don't know...
