I wonder
how you are
You know it seems like forever
since we laughed togetherWe've changed
Grown up
The years decided our paths
along with our hearts' choicesDid you make the right ones?
there was always so much passion
in your eyes
A fire that couldn't be tamed
I often prayed
it wouldn't land you in troubleBut I remember
those days
as teenagers
Oh I was young
and my innocent heart
beat with emotion for youFor your smile that lit your eyes
Your eyes with depths of brown
and gold, when the sun shone
just rightIt was magical
the way you looked at me
affected me so
I was so young
unsure how to feelYou would talk
and my throat would grow dry
I would stutter
and wish I knew what to sayWhen you winked at me
my skinny legs would grow weak
I went weak and starry-eyed
over you
You affected me
like no one elseA crush is a scary thing
when your heart is growing daily
I was so nervous
but laughed at everything you didYou seemed so perfect
your black hair I just wanted
to run my fingers through
your muscled arms and chest
tanned by the sun
your deep voice
so reassuring and manlyWhen your arms wrapped
around my waist for a moment
I remember it forever
I'd hoped you could be minebut we grew up
decisions widened the gap
that always stood between us
I somehow knew
my feelings would never become
anything morebut I'm ok with that
we were just kids
we didn't know who we were
or how life would speak to usDid you achieve
what you wanted?
All those dreams of fighting
for justice, friends and country? Each in our own way
we fight and grow and live
we become someone new
to live and love againI'll remember you though
and the first time
my heart learned to sing
about something completely foreign
about you, and first love
