Luke gets the horse saddled up and lets me get on her. I struggle to figure out what to do.
"Let me guess, big city girl don't know how to ride a horse?" Luke, still partially annoyed, says sarcastically. I give him an unsure smile and he sighs. Grabbing a rope from beside him.
"What's are you doing?" I ask him
"You want to learn how to ride, right?" I nod my head.
"Well I'm hooking the horse up to the rope so I can have control of her until you figure everything out." He speaks
"So... you'll help me?" I say excitedly.
"Yeah I guess. For now." He leads the horse into a small arena, then begins to show me what to do.
First he positions my hands then my feet.
"Heels down" he says, I follow his instructions. "Good"
"Use the reigns how I showed you and turn the horse to the right" he tells me, I do.
"Great job." He says, still holding onto the leading rope and walking beside me. "Now make a clicking sound with your mouth and tell him to 'trot'"
"Click click Trot" I speak, the horse doesn't go any faster.
"Try again" Luke tells me "this time squeeze your feet against her sides to try to get her going"
"Click click Trot" I squeeze my feet against her sides and still nothing happens.
"One more time" Luke says "This Time bump her with your feet a little bit"
I follow his direction once more and this time she listens. Luke runs by my side, and soon I give the horse the command to walk.
"Tell the horse to 'woah' and pull back a little on the reigns" he tells me. I do this and he immediately takes the rope off the horse.
"Um what are you doing?" I ask, confused.
"Don't worry, I'll stay near by. I think it's alright for you to ride on your own for a little bit."
