Chapter Five

We got into the car and left for the restaurant. After about five minutes, Drew seemed worried.

"Uh oh," he said, "I'm pretty low on gas."

"We'll be fine... let's just get to the closest gas station." I said with a smile.

Drew nodded and continued to drive, seeming more anxious by the minute. I saw how he kept one hand on the wheel while playing with his necklace with the other.

It seemed as if we would make it, but the car suddenly began to slow down.

"Fuck." Drew muttered, pulling the car to the side of the road. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair.

"Let's call Keaton or Wes." I said.

Drew pulled out his phone. "Shit, I don't have any bars... let me get out of the car."

He quickly got out of the car and shut the door. I waited for him to get back, tapping my fingers on the window. It suddenly began to drizzle. I looked out of the car and saw that Drew had just hung up his phone. He opened the door and turned to me.

"Bad news babe. Keaton's at a skatepark pretty far away, he wouldn't get here for at least another half an hour."

"What about Wes?" I asked.

"No." Drew snapped, "I mean... I think he's busy."

"Let's just call him and ask. It doesn't hurt to try. He's kinda our only option right now." I answered.

He sighed and pulled out his phone. The drizzle had turned into a downpour of rain, so he didn't bother to go outside to make the call. I noticed that he seemed a little upset about having to call Wes. Maybe it had something to do with the party? I thought. My thoughts were pushed to the side as Wesley answered the phone.

"Hey bro." Drew said. "I'm out here with a girl, and my car ran out of gas. Think you could come get us? I'm by the forest I always go to, about 5 minutes down the road."

Drew waited for Wesleys response. After a while, he said "Thanks man." and hung up.

He turned to me. "He'll be here in about five minutes. Turns out he's pretty close by."

We sat in uncomfortable silence. Something about having to call Wes really pissed Drew off. I could sense the tension as a black car slowly pulled up to where we were, on the side of the road.

Wes rolled down his window, as we got out of the car.

"Sup Drew," he muttered, and then saw me.

"Sarah? Is that you?" he asked with a smirk.

"Yeah, hey Wes." I smiled.

"Bro, you didn't tell me you were taking Sarah out." Wesley said, sending me a wink and then looking at Drew.

Drew glared at him and began to walk to the passenger side of the car. He opened up the door and I slid inside. He then got in the backseat and Wes sped off down the road.

"Alright, where am I taking you?" Wesley asked.

I turned around to where Drew was sitting in the back seat. I shrugged and then turned back to Wesley.

"Well, I guess you can just drop me at my place."

"Sorry guys, didn't mean to kill the mood." he chuckled.

"No, it's fine,"  I mumbled.

Wesley rested his hand on my knee and continued to drive. I could almost feel Drew glaring at Wesley from the back seat.

"Alright, do you need my address?" I asked, trying to make conversation.

"Nah babe, remember? I've been to your house before." he smirked.

I immidiately remembered when Wes had to drive me home from the party. I mentally slapped myself; it totally sounded like we had hung out or something.

Unsure of what to do, I nodded and looked away. At this point we were right on my street. The car slowly rolled to a stop. I quickly opened the door; I didn't want to spend another second in that car.

Drew got out too, and helped me out.

"Bye Sarah," Wesley said.

I waved and walked up the driveway as Drew interlocked our fingers.

"Drew, are you okay?" I asked, concerned.

He stopped as we reached my door.

"I'm okay. Wes just doesn't understand when he needs to lay off." he replied.

I bit my lip and nodded. I hoped he wasn't upset with me.

"Maybe we can have a do-over date?" I suggested.

He looked up and smiled.

"Yeah. That'd be awesome. Goodnight love," he said, and kissed me slowly.

As he pulled away, he smiled one last time and began walking down the driveway, getting into Wesley's car.

I quickly unlocked the door and stepped inside.

It was then that I remembered that Wes had done the exact same thing when he took me home from the party. The walking me to the door, the goodnight kiss.

There was one thing that scared me, though. I wasn't sure who I had feelings for. Drew was so sweet, but Wesley's flirty actions made me weak at the knees. Confused and frustrated, I just wanted to go to sleep. I could talk to Kate about the situation tomorrow.
