Now I just about say this phrase everyday to my mother. She already knows what it means since I say it so often.
배고파 - I'm Hungry
You don't even have to say the "I'm" part cuz its already obvious to people if you state that phrase.
Now if you use a questionable tone, raising the sound of 파 so its more high pitched...
배고파?
It becomes "Are you hungry?"
