After I woke up, I saw Vanessa sweating profusely. I got her a clean towel and put some cold water on it. As I walked back to her, I heard her groan and retch.
I decided to get her a bowl as well, so the vomit wouldn't get everywhere. When I walked in, I froze at the sight.
She was deathly pale, and looked horrible. I quickly ran over and dabbed her forehead with the cold cloth, then gave her the bowl. She immediately retched into it, and I held her hair back as she emptied the contents of her stomach.
When she finished, I dabbed her forehead with the cold cloth again. She sighed in relief, and said, " C-Can we go to the hospital now? "
I nodded quickly, saying, " Of course Vanessa, we'll go after you get a bit of rest. "
She nodded weakly, then passed out a few minutes later
I let her rest for an hour or so, then shook her gently.
She woke up a start, a scream about to escape her lips, but she held it back when she saw it was only me.
I motioned for her to follow me, and she nodded slowly, climbing onto my back.
I slowly opened the door of our little makeshift home, and saw that the infected had left the hospital alone.
Odd, I thought. Shouldn't it be crawling with them?
I shook the thought off and walked towards the doors slowly, being extremely cautious of my noises. I could hear Vanessa try to hold her breath as much as she could. Because of that alone, I hurried towards the doors.
They opened with a mechanical beep, and I froze.
How are these working?! They should be down from the power loss! My brain couldn't find an answer, so I pushed forward into the room. The smell hit me first. The rotting smell that came with a decaying body.
I gagged, then hurried past the few bodies that were in the way. They didn't move, so I took that as a sign that they were truly dead.
I got to the front desk, then froze as I saw a woman, a living women stare at me.
I was at a lost, then my voice finally found me, and I said, " H-How are you alive?! "
The woman replied with, " I can ask you the same thing! "
We stared at each other for a few more minutes, before Vanessa said, " Um, remember? Urgent medical needs? "
I snapped out of my daze and nodded, saying, " We've both been bitten. We need medical care, or..we'll become like one of them.. "
The woman nodded instantly and buzzed a button. Two men in hazmat suits burst through the door and grabbed us.
Vanessa yelped and reached for me, I returned the gesture. But out of nowhere, a voice said, " Its alright, we're gonna take care of the infection.
I turned towards the voice as they carried Vanessa to a room outside my vision. The voice came from a man. He looked about 30, he had sandy red hair, a crooked nose, and a permanent frown.
He said, " Im Doctor Victor, I'll be your doctor today. "
I said, " No shit sherlock. Now tell me, why am I not experiencing the same symptoms as Vanessa? I was bitten before her, in a worse way might I add, and im only feeling woozy from blood loss. How is this possible?! "
The doctor stared me with wide eyes, and said softly, " Y-You...You're the cure! "
I stared at him blankly, and said, " Come again? "
