baekhyun had been a huge help to sehun's initial loneliness; the dog was always so much in need of attention. and sehun knew it had only been only a week since he got him but he seriously thought it would never get annoying. whether it was sleeping beside sehun's side or whining for a scratch on his belly, he was always near sehun. the man of course didn't mind, not when baekhyun would lick his hand randomly before falling asleep or waking him up with an excited tail wag. it was like he had a son now, and sehun secretly liked being responsible and all the things junmyeon taught him about living on his own.

so when chanyeol invited him for a night at the club he hesitated on answering, watching baekhyun gnaw on his new bone. the dog didn't touch any of vivi's old belongings; sehun was slightly concerned. but didn't pay much attention to it since baekhyun seemed like he preferred sehun's bed more than vivi's.

"um, i'm not sure." sehun replied over the phone, hearing chanyeol rustle around on the other end before silence.

"why not?"

sehun stared as baekhyun let go of his bone and starting to walk toward him, eyes bright and mouth open in pants. did dogs smile? because baekhyun was definitely smiling. he reached down and petted the dog, watching his eyes close blissfully. "i haven't left baekhyun by himself yet."

chanyeol snorted. "well you should start doing so now. the semester is right around the corner. might as well make him get used to it."

"...fine, okay. i'll go." sehun knew the elder was right but the anxiety didn't lessen at the thought of leaving his dog alone in the house. baekhyun had peed on his curtains, scratched up his door, and bit through a shampoo bottle that now had sehun's bathroom smelling like strong cologne. the dog was mischievous and sehun didn't want to come home after partying to a mess. but it was the only way to discipline the dog.

"yay! now i just need to ask minseok."

"he's not going to go, chanyeol. don't bother." sehun rolled his eyes, picking up baekhyun with one hand and setting the eager dog on his lap where he nuzzled into his shirt.

"but i have to woo him, sehunnie. once he sees how charismatic i am while drunk he'll fall hard."

"you're dumb and stupid and minseok probably does like you back— but please don't invite him. next week take him on a romantic date where he wants to actually go to."

"... you think he likes me back?"

sehun hung up.

baekhyun only stared as he got dressed up, sehun taking off his clothes and feeling a tad bit embarrassed that the dog was in the room. but he wasn't going to change in the bathroom or lock the dog out— that was a bit too much and even he knew it.

he was ready on the dot as chanyeol texted him to head down, and sehun tried to ignore how baekhyun wagged his tail desperately. he grabbed the dog and set him outside his bedroom, closing the door behind him and all doors afterward before checking baekhyun's food and water just in case. he really hoped the dog didn't mess anything up.

and with a small goodbye sehun left, shutting the front door as baekhyun was obviously trying to get to him. he locked the door with baekhyun's sad eyes fresh on his mind and walked away.

it wasn't liberating, not that he thought it'd ever be.

"one time i ate a piece of cheese off the sidewalk."

"you're disgusting." sehun deadpanned, taking a sip of drink.
