I sat in the waiting room with Cody beside me. "Nervous?" He asked. I chuckled. "Thought you would be more than me." I said. "I am." He said. I leaned my head on his shoulder. "Do you want to find out the gender now or wait until closer to time?" I asked. "What do you think?" He asked. "You wanna know?" I asked. He sighed.

"Baby. It never hurts to see now then later to make sure it's accurate. Of course I wanna know. We just won't buy anything until thirty two weeks. That should give the genitals enough time to be developed and in view." He said. "Babe. The genitals are already developed. They stopped developing two to five weeks ago." I told him. "Then I guess we'll just have to wait until he or she is in the right position both times we want to see what the gender is." He said.

I giggled. "Your a goofball sometimes, you know that?" I asked. "Yeah. But I'm your goofball." He said. My name was called. Cody stood up before helping me to my feet. I walked with him; my hand in his slightly larger one. My weight was taken, then a small urine sample and finally my heart and lungs were checked. I was sat on the ultrasound table.

"How far long are you?" The nurse asked. "Twenty weeks." I told her. "Gender check?" She asked. "Yes please." I said. "Alright lay back. This is going to feel cold." She warned. I laid back and lifted my shirt. My belly was showing nicely today. Hint the sarcasm. She was right. The gel was cold. "Just relax." She said. I had no choice but to relax.

After hearing the heartbeat she went on to see how long it was, how big across the skull. "Is this the first ultrasound of the baby?" She asked. "No. My husband and I travel for work a lot when it comes time for an ultrasound I'll usually set one up while he's driving." I said partially lying. "Oh ok. Just getting it in the town your in at the time of an appointment needed?" She asked. "Yes." I answered. Cody adjusted his hand in mine.

"Baby looks healthy. What were you two planning on having?" She asked. "As long as it's healthy we're fine." Cody said. "Well this is the perfect position that I've ever seen an unborn baby in. It's almost like it knows when it's being viewed. Alright the gender appears to be a boy. Now this may not be a hundred percent accurate I'd advise getting that check out again at another appointment." She said. At the moment it's a boy.

Thirty weeks

I had to schedule the appointment two weeks earlier due to excessive kicking. Cody knows about it and said that if it's only a check up it'll be fine. I feel like a fat cow. Honestly. There are two other women in the waiting room beside me that look to be about the same size I am. The blood work came back with a note saying that there was Y chromosomes floating around.

That was the real indicator that this is definitely going to be a boy. Yes, Cody was a little disappointed about that but says he'll love him the same as if it was a girl. The diamond ring on my swollen finger was starting to bug me. I messed with it as I waited. One of the women went in. The other got up and waddled over to me. I'm sure I look like that when I walk. Of course I'm sitting down to do my job.

She sat down next to me. "I haven't seen you around here before." She said. "Just visiting." I said. The shirt I snagged from Cody was just barely big enough for me to wear. "Oh. That's fun. Where you heading after this?" She asked. "Actually I'm in town for the velocity tour with PBR." I said. "Husband?" She asked. "That and I'm on the medical team." I said.

"How far long are you?" She asked. "Thirty weeks." I said. "The last ten weeks are hard. This is my fifth child. I left my husband at home with our three year old to come here for a check up. The rest go to school. My oldest is in middle school." She said. Wow. I guess that's pregnancy brain for you. I've barely experienced it. I guess every pregnancy is different.

My name was called. I took my time standing and walking to where the nurse was waiting. I had to take a urine sample and had my weight checked. Then heart and was asked how far long I was. This is just the tip of the iceberg. As much as I want to go home and put my feet up I can't. After the doctor came in, she examined the baby; for nearly an hour!

I almost had enough when my phone rang. Cody asking how it was going. I finally asked if we could be done. The whole time he was kicking. She agreed letting me leave. I asked Cody if he was out front waiting. He said he had been for almost fifteen minutes. I spotted the truck and waddled out. I got in and had to rest.

"She got carried away because of how much he kept kicking me in the ribs." I said. "She should have asked if you had a specific amount of time." He said. "She wouldn't of cared. Our son moved so much that she has never seen that much movement in a baby for years." I said. "Then let's go find somewhere to eat." He said. "As much as I need to eat, I don't want to eat." I said.

"Baby you know I'll make you eat what you need to." He said. "Then how about something that will give me the nutrients I need and nothing I don't." I said tears welling up. He quickly flipped the console up and unbuckled me pulling me to him. "Baby. You know I always try to get away from the greasy fast food and more of the healthier foods, but sometimes it requires a trip to the grocery store or convenience store to find the foods you want or even need." He said.

"I know." I sobbed. "Shh. Getting upset now isn't the best. You know you can go into labor at thirty weeks." He said. I nodded. "We can't be tied at the moment when he arrives." He said. "We can't be traveling either." I said. "We'll spend certain days traveling and certain ones staying put as you near the big forty. I don't want to be roadside calling an ambulance because my girl has gone into labor and it's just me.

"And believe me as soon as you start having contractions, if we're on the road and near a town I will speed up to get you there on time." He said. I nodded. He kissed the top of my head. "Now where to eat today?" He asked.
