I was usually so focused in school. Well, at least when Aaron wasn't in my classes. I had my headphones in, and I was listening to music, trying to focus on my work. It was difficult when I kept feeling someone's eyes on me. I looked up, and my eyes collided with Jax's. Of course. Of course...
He held my gaze for a few solid seconds before I looked away. I can't stand keeping eye contact with super attractive guys. I feel weird for staring, even if they're looking at me too. Another weird thing about me, a few seconds after I get excited, I just start smiling like crazy. This, of course was happening now. Wait. I am not excited. I mean why would I be excited? No reason. I forced a straight face.
"What are you doing, Clara?" Allison asked.
"What do you mean? I'm doing my work."
"Not that. I saw you smiling really wide a few seconds ago, and then just all of the sudden, you looked like a zombie."
"EXCUSE ME. Are you trying to tell me I look dead?" I giggled.
"No. I mean you just dropped the happy face. And I could tell that it was a real happy face, because your eyes were all crinkly."
"Geez, thanks." Oh, that girl spoke her mind. I wonder what's kept her from mentioning the smokin' hot new guy sitting across from us.
"Clar, I know you like to get your work done during class, but we have an urgent issue to discuss!"
"What?!" Did her dad die or something? Nooooo, not Manny. He was the best friend's dad anyone could ask for.
"Him." She looked like the heart eyes emoji as she pointed across the room. At Jax. Oh brother. No, we could not have my best friend falling for some bad boy. I was already in a similar situation, and trust me, it is not one you want to be in.
"Allison, listen to me. You will not fall for him. He was a troublemaker at his old school so his parents sent him here. You don't want to be like me. You don't want to like some guy like Aaron."
"Uhhh, how do you know all this stuff about him, Clara?" She looked wide-eyed at me.
"He told me earlier when he made me fall."
"WHAT? You've already managed to fall for him?" She fiercely whispered.
I burst out laughing at her wrong assumption. Unfortunately my laugh was extremely loud. Everyone in the class turned and stared at me. Including Jax. He looked amused at my sudden outburst but the teacher did not.
"Miss Clara Taylor. Would you like to tell me what was so funny as to disrupt the whole class?"
"No ma'am."
"Then shut that mouth of yours." Yeesh, that woman was harsh. I traded glances with Allison, and had to stifle my laughter. I explained what I meant on a piece of paper since the teacher kept looking at me to make sure I wouldn't disrupt the class again. She looked super excited. She started writing something back.
Yayyy you've found someone to replace Aaron.
Uh.... no I haven't. I am not going from one player to another. No point. Besides, Jax doesn't like me.
Keep telling yourself that, girl, but I have a feeling he does. He kept looking at you in class. And besides, maybe he's sweet. Give him a chance.
Why are you like this? Stop being such a hopeless romantic, Alli.
I will do what I want, and soon enough you'll realize you like him.
I stopped replying to her notes then. Once Allison had an idea, you couldn't get it out of her mind. She was more stubborn than an ox. I finally got back to work, and even though I had gotten distracted for the majority of class, I still got the assignment done before the bell rang.
It was lunch time, and before I could go to my regular table, Jax found me. I was planning on avoiding him altogether so I wouldn't have to look at his handsome face. I certainly didn't want to catch feelings for him.
"Hey, Clara. I don't know many people yet, so could I sit with you for lunch?"
No. No, you can't just act like an innocent, shy, cute boy, when you got kicked out of your school. No you can't sit by me. "Yes, of course." Mouth, why have you betrayed me?
"Thanks." He smiled again. Ugh this was going to be hard.
Ashley, one of the popular girls came waltzing over to Jax, clearly trying to flirt with him. "Hey. I'm Ashley!" She giggled. "Do you want to sit with my friends and I?" In this case it's me and my friends, actually. Don't you pay any attention in English, Ashley?
Just say yes. Make it easier to make me believe you are a player. Please.
He smiled politely and I was prepared for him to turn to me an apologize for leaving. "Sorry, um... Ashley, but I'm already sitting by Clara."
She was rude enough to say, "Her? Are you sure you wouldn't rather sit by me? "
"Absolutely positive." Wow. Jax, you tell her! Wait. No. Go sit by her so I don't forget to ignore you!
"C'mon, let's go eat." He said, looking at me. Ahhh the freckles.
My mouth wouldn't move when he looked at me. I think I'd been paralyzed.
Author's Note: I made this chapter longer than the other two. Should I keep making them long or nah? If you are reading this book still, thank you much! Feel free to leave comments, and vote.
I was just listening to a song called Symphony by Clean Bandit featuring Zara Larsson. She is such a good singer! I want her voice. Anyways the song is catchy.
I'm hungry. Guys, don't you all wish you had an unlimited supply of food? I dooooo.
I'm probably going to add a cast soon. If you have any ideas for it, please share!
