A knock at the door came at six o'clock sharp. He was here. And my family was meeting him. This was insane. I'd gone from the girl nobody liked to the girl with her boy coming to her house to meet her family real quick. And I couldn't believe he was my guy. This was surreal.

I opened the door with Mom trailing behind, and my little brother and my dad standing a little further back. Jax stood there looking completely and utterly nervous, but he had... flowers. Awwwe! I had been joking but I guess he thought I was serious about it. Whoops.

He smiled as he saw me, and then his gaze fell on my mom and he reached out with the flowers. "These are for you, Mrs. Taylor."

"So thoughtful. Thank you, Jax. It's so nice to finally meet you!"

Within the next hour, we talked for a while and ate dinner. Things went surprisingly well. My brother Marcus, who was 13, bonded with Jax by talking about the Legend of Zelda video games.

"So you've beat Breath of the Wild?"

"Yeah, bud, I have all of the games, and I've beat all but Tri Force Heroes. Maybe you can borrow them sometime, how does that sound? I'll bring them to Clara and she can give them to you."

"Awesome! Or you could just come here again with them and we can play them together."

"You know what?"

"What?" Marcus asked enthusiastically.

"That sounds like a great idea. I'll just have to do that, if your family is okay with me coming back sometime."

My dad chimed in then. "Son, you're welcome any time. And you can bring your family some time so we can meet them."

"Thank you sir. I'll make sure to tell them." He nodded at my dad. I'm glad I found a gentleman. Even if he gave off the bad boy vibe at first, I've found that he's actually a really, really good guy. "Well, it's getting pretty late. Thank you all so much for having me, but I better get going soon."

A round of byes went around and then he was headed for the door. "I'll walk him out." I offered hopefully. I wanted to talk to him for a minute, alone. When nobody objected, we walked outside and stood on the porch.

"Jax Darron, you sure know how to win people over." I said.

"I've been told that by the ladies before." He smirked.

"Your mother doesn't count." I teased.

"You're funny, ya know?"

"I've been told by the guys." Now I was smirking.

"Your grandpa doesn't count."

"Ouch. You basically stole my joke and then told me that the only guy that thinks I'm funny is my grandpa. He does, for the record, though."

"I bet. I don't see how someone couldn't appreciate you and your humor." With that the playful banter disappeared, and he put his hand on the side of my face, staring at me with some emotion I couldn't put my hand on, and then he leaned in. We kissed, but only for a few moments because I realized my family could very well be watching through the window.

"The family might be watching." I whispered.

"Then let them watch." he whispered back as he placed another kiss on my lips, but he leaned back soon. "I guess I'll just have to finish that another time." And with that, he was headed away. He got in his car, and I waved as he pulled out of the driveway. He waved back, and then he was gone. I was left standing in the driveway, grateful for tonight and everything that had happened since a month ago.
