Two hours later, as I was trying to convince my mom to let me go, the doorbell rang.
As my mom opened the door, I saw Aaron standing there. OH NO.

"Uh hey, is Clara here?" He asked nonchalantly.

"Who are you?"

"Aaron. I was going to take Clara on a date. Is this her house or not?" She's not going to let me go it with him. I can already tell.

"Yes, it's her house..." Silence. "Just a second." She turned to me, who was standing behind a corner, and whispered to me.

"You can go, but be back at home by 11 PM, don't drink, and don't do anything stupid."

She's going to let me go? After what she said? Yes!

"Yes mom. I'll be back by then and you know I won't."

"Good. Keep your word or you won't be leaving the house except for school." She smiled then. "Have fun."

"Thanks so much, Mom! I will!"

A few minutes later, I was in Aaron's car with him, closing the door.

"Where are we going?" I asked. I still couldn't believe he'd asked me out.

"Are you hungry?" He asked, turning to look at me, and he halfway smirked, halfway smiled.

"Yes!" I replied, maybe a little too enthusiastically.

As we waited for our server, we talked.

"You know why I like you?" Aaron asked.

"No, I don't. Why do you like me?" He likes me!

"Because you're different than the other girls."

Where's this going? I think I like where this is going... "I am?"

"Yeah, you're..." He stopped mid-sentence as his gaze fell over my shoulder. It only took seconds until I knew what he was looking at.

"Hello, I'm your waiter. What can I-" Jax's eyes met mine and his voice faltered.

Then his gaze flickered over to Aaron

Then his gaze flickered over to Aaron. And back. He cleared his throat. "What can I get you two?"

Aaron didn't hesitate, saying "I'll have the True Love's Burger." Aaron, what are you doing? Is that purely coincidental or are you trying to get on Jax's nerves again?

I looked at Jax, trying to read his expression. He looked upset. "Um, I'll have... the... classic cheeseburger, please." I said shyly.

"Yeah. K. What do you want to drink?"

Both Aaron and I just decided on water.

"I'll get your order in," Jax grumbled. With that he turned away, and walked into the kitchen.
