As we walked out of the cafeteria, Luca sighed in relief. We were still holding hands but I didn’t say anything. To tell you the truth, I kind of liked it. It was the first human contact that I’ve had in a long time and I’ve missed… well, people. My job was lonely and I didn’t require friends so I didn’t have any. I walked alongside Luca until we came to a field. It was being occupied but what I think was the football team and there were some people sitting on the bleachers watching them practice. Luca sighed before turning to me. He looked down at our hands and lifted them. He played with my fingers and he sighed again.
“I’m sorry” he said as he continued to play with my fingers.
“What for?” I asked as yell come from the field, showing they had made a touchdown.
“Lisa.” He said, dropping our hands but not letting go. Queue the awes.
“Don’t worry, but is going to leave you alone?”
“No, probably not. She has this delusion that I’m in love with her and I’m only hanging out with you to make her jealous.”
“Are you?” I asked, a little bit scared to know the answer. He was the first friend I’ve had in a long time and it would hurt to know if he was using me like that, but it would explain why he hasn’t left my side since the morning.
“No!” he said as he shook his head. Then he gave me side grin. “Though I must admit, I might use you now to get rid of her.” He was smiling as he said it so I knew he was joking. I smiled and told him O.K.
“What would make her leave you alone?” I asked him as we walked along the field.
“Probably if I got a new girlfriend” he said while kicking a stone.
“Then why don’t you do that?”
“I’m not going to use a girl to get rid of another girl. I think that would create more problems that it would solve, don’t you think?” I smiled and nodded as I thought about. Always the gentleman.
“What about me?”
“What do you mean?”
“Well if people thought I was your girlfriend, Lisa will leave you alone and people won’t question why I spend so much time with you without appearing like a creepy stalker.”
“But you are a creepy stalker.” I smacked his arm playfully as Luca laughed. “I guess it could work, but you do know we’d have to act like a couple right?”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, holding hands” he lifted up our hands “kissing, hugging and going on dates.”
“Don’t get too excited” I told him sarcastically as I saw his relaxed face. Luca chuckled and stopped and turned to me.
“So you up for it.” I nodded and turned my head to look at the football team. Luca tugged me behind him as we head back to the school. I followed behind Luca as we headed for my locker. As we arrived, I notice Lisa coming our way and I saw her eyes zone in on our hands. I decided to put the plan in action. I turned Luca around and as he was about to ask me a question, I cupped his face in my hands, successfully shutting him up. I reached a bit up and pressed my lips against his. I felt his shock as he wrapped his arms around my waist. I closed my eyes and let myself enjoy what I would lose too soon. I moved my arms around Luca’s neck and continued to kiss him. I felt warm and safe in his arms and I could feel butterflies in my stomach as Luca leaned me against the lockers. This was all very new to me and I can definitely say that I enjoyed every second. After a few seconds we let go and gasped for breath. “Wow” was the first thing that came out of Luca’s mouth. I smiled and nodded. I could see from the corner of my eye, Lisa, fuming.
