“D-death?” Luca asked as he leaned away from me.

“Don’t worry. I don’t kill people; I just guide them to the portals that will take them to paradise.” I said as I lifted my hands in a reassuring way. At least I hoped it was reassuring. Luca must have believed me because he stopped looking as scared as he did before but I could still sense his nervousness.

“Do you have a death scythe, like the grim reaper?” he asked with a new sort of curiosity. I smiled, happy he wasn’t sacred of me anymore; I hated it when people were scared or disliked me.

“Well, I am the grim reaper so yes I do. Would you like to see it?” I stood up and backed away from the bed as Luca nodded. I held out a hand and imagined my scythe. A long thin black pole that had a weightless blade that shined dangerously on the top side of the pole. I don’t use my scythe very often because I learned that people are more frightened when I have it. I summon it when I have to take down a demon that escaped from Hell or when a spirit gets violent. I opened my eyes and saw that not only had my scythe appeared but my outfit had changed as well. I was in a dress that a corset like top and a cape that connected to a hood, so I looked very reaper –like. Luca was staring open mouthed at me. He stood up and walked until he was right in front of me. His gaze slipped to the scythe in my hands as he reached out to touch it but pulled back and looked at me. I nodded and he let his fingers slide over the blade, careful not to even go near the edges. My hair had also changed with everything. Under the hood was two ponytails that curled and made me look like those anime characters and it didn’t help that I looked Asian with big eyes and fair skin.

After I put my scythe away (don’t ask where) and immediately after if disappeared my outfit left too. I felt like sailor moon every time that happened.

“That was really cool.” Luca said in a hushed tone. We went back to sitting on his bed as he continued to ask questions. By the time it was around 10 o’ clock, I had to leave to do my daily guiding rounds and Luca was already falling asleep.

***

It was Monday the next morning and Luca had to go to school, while I had to enroll. I had already sent the paperwork to the school the other day so I was fine in enrolling but I also had to grab some supplies. I was lucky that Luca had no problem with me stalking him and even gave me some supplies, mostly some blank notebooks and some pens and pencils.

I materialized in my car as Luca said goodbye to his family as came walking out the door. He told me he usually walked but I was taking his to school from there on out. I felt a little like a babysitter.

When we arrived at the school, kids were goofing around in the front and girls were standing or sitting in the grass, giggling and talking. I watched as quite a few people turned to look at the car but it wasn’t like the movies where you could hear a pin drop. Most people just turned back their conversations after they glanced at the car. I got out of the car, my fresh new button up black shirt crumbling as I made each movement. My wet hair drenched the back of my shirt and was up in a ponytail. I bet your wondering when I took a shower and got dressed. Easy, while Luca was taking a shower, I materialized in my house and got ready and came back before Luca was finished.

I pushed my glasses up on my nose as they slid off. My glasses were those nerd glasses and no I didn’t get them because of that, it was because the lenses were wide enough for me to look sideways and up or down, without having me move my head. I wonder how people can look through those thin lenses, I couldn’t do that. I pulled my messenger bag over my shoulder as I waited for Luca to get out of the car. Luca didn’t leave my side, much to my surprise. This kid really surprises me; he does almost the exact opposite of what I expect him to do. I started to walk the main building and looked around for a sign that might direct me to the main office. Luca grabbed my arm and steered me to a door that had a fade out sticker that, from what I could make out, said ‘office’. I walked in with Luca behind me and walked up to the counter that separated half of the room. There was a lady in one of the desks but she didn’t even glance up from her large blood red nails. Luca stood next to me with a bored expression on his face as he puffed his cheeks and tapped his fingers against the counter. I guess this really annoyed the lady because she sighed and grumbled before speaking.
