10. Why Is It Always Me...

I clutched my head from the encounter with the ceiling and sat on the edge of the bed, trying to slow my erratic panting. I felt breathless and exhausted, as if I was really running, even though it was only a dream. Or was it? I could've had a vision of the future, or even witnessed that boy's death!

Dawn was breaking, and as I was having all these thoughts, one voice stayed in my mind, continuously shouting at me.

The boy is still alive. Try to find him...

The voice wouldn't give up, as if it was actually someone in my head, telling me to do it.

"But it's near impossible!" I said to no-one in particular. I wouldn't be surprised if there WAS a voice.

Go. I will help you find him...

Now this was creepy. Not only was my conscience speaking to me, but it was listening and answering too. I frowned, not trusting it. But the urge to go was even stronger, if I didn't, I would almost be murdering someone! I took a deep breath, finally slowing my tortured heart, and stood up.

I felt braver, stronger, as if the voice had blessed me. I picked up the bed and examined the chest beside it. Did Trayaurus put that there? Inside was, of course, my wrecked armour and the last healing potion. I threw the bottle on the floor, watching as the glass shattered and magical pink swirls spewed from the ground, forming a circle around me. I felt my health shoot up and my wounds disappeared as the spirals also dissipated. Throwing on the armour and 'borrowing' the ten steaks Trayaurus hid in the exam room, I prepared to leave.

Of course, no-one could be an adventurer without a dog. Or... skeleton wolf. Grim bounded up to me, wagging his tail at a rate of 30 wags-per-second. I smiled, how could I forget him? Also 'borrowing' a diamond sword from the secret basement and some flesh for Grim, I left the sanctity of the lab and headed for the jungle. I would never have gone there usually, but the 'urge' was leading me deeper and deeper into the shrubbery.

Racking my poor, overused brain, I tried to remember if I had seen any plains biomes near, as that was where the attack had happened. Too late, I heard the click of a tripwire and the ground fell from underneath me, giving way to a deep pit. I instinctively threw my arms in front of me, trying to break the fall. The watery crack and immense pain in my right arm made it obvious that I had broken something else, landing almost directly on it. Clutching my deformed limb and trying not to scream in pain, I realised the pain was worth it. If it wasn't for instincts, I would've probably landed on my neck. Instant death. Swallowing hard with tears in my eyes and broken bone piercing the skin outside of my arm, I tried to focus on the voices from the top of the pit.

"Did you catch something, Amy?"

"Not something, someone! Help me get him out!"

I could vaguely make out a face of a creeper above the pit before my vision faded.
