Hayes

"Well, I just see you more as a friend.." she says looking into my eyes.

"You do?" I ask confused.

How can that be I changed for her?

"Hayes I like you as a friend, I always have." She says looking off to the side now.

"Layla.. no." I say gripping onto the window sill.

She makes a confused face.

"Layla. You have no idea, do you?" I ask.

She doesn't understand.

"I fucking changed for you. I did all this for you. You are the girl I was talking about! How can you not see that? I had girls throwing themselves at me! But I avoided them all for you! I guess you really are shallow. Goodbye Layla, don't talk to me ever again." I yell. In my head I scream. I back out of the window, shut it and pull my curtains back.

I can't believe her.

I'm done.

I pull off this whole "hot guy" look and it just fucks me in the end.

I'm so done.

Starting Monday, I'm done.

I'll go back to being Hayes Grier, the loser.

I don't even care anymore.

SUNDAY MORNING
the day of

I get woken up from my mom shaking me and cops searching my room.

"Hayes, baby, please get up." She says worried.

"What's going on, mom?" I ask getting up.

"Hayes Grier?" A police officer asks as I get up.

"Um, yes, yeah, I'm Hayes Grier." I reply nervously.

"Do you know this young woman?" He asks unfolding a paper.

As he unfolds it I grab my glasses and oh them on.

I fix them on my face as I look at the paper.

"Yeah, that's Layla. Layla Roberts." I reply, really worried this time.

"Well, she's missing." He states.

"Wait, what?" I ask, trying to comprehend.

"I was just talking to her last night. When did this happen?" I ask.

"Last night?" He asks, writing something down.

"What was the topic about?" He asked.

I look off to the side.

"Can we talk about this another time?" I ask.

He nods and says, "She was reported missing at 6 AM, when her father was about to leave. He said he checked up on her and she was gone."

That's impossible.

I left at 4:00 AM.

2 hours? For her to go missing?

I don't believe it.

"Then why are you here?" I ask.

"Hayes.." My mom says giving me the look.

"Her parents said she was spending quite some time with you. They thought maybe you'd know something." He says.

"So they are accusing me of kidnapping their daughter?" I fire back.

"Just a precaution, Hayes." He calms me.

About an hour later, the police leave.

"Hayes, I'm going to work early. Call me if you need me." My mom says, kissing my forehead and leaves.

I don't believe this.

I have to find out.

I run outside the house as soon as I see my moms care turn the corner.

I slowly make my way to Layla's backyard.

To my surprise, the back door is open.

No one is home and I make my way to her room.

I open it slowly and look around.

I go to her nightstand and look outside the window to see mine.

I rummage around her drawers, but also careful to not ruin anything.

I look and see a notepad under the mattress peeking out.

I pull it out and see my name, dates, and times.

What?

She was taking note of the time I was waking up.

I look more and see drawings of me.

I see addresses and numbers.

But something stands out.

At 4:23 AM

There's a note of an address and an address of a storage unit.

4235 Walbay St.

347 McLain St. Lock 56.

I take the notebook and get out of there as fast as I can.
