FOUR DAYS GONE

Hayes

I run as fast as I can.

"Wow Grier, faster every week. You should really consider trying out for track." Coach says lightly punching my arm.

I nod and smile back.

I'm at football practice.

Trying to get everything out of my mind.

It's Layla.

I've been seeing her.

All yesterday.

Hours past and I'm home.

Laying down trying to figure out what could've happened to her.

Was she really there?

Or was I just seeing things?

It felt real.

I cover my eyes.

THE DAY OF

Layla

The eyes are covered.

Driving and looking around.

Seeing mountains and trees.

Low breathing.

Hit the breaks.

The door slams shut.

Dragging is heard.

The darkness shines through.

It's 5 AM.

Stepping on twigs and branches, until reaching the desired destination.

I jump over Layla's fence and step on sticks.

I need to know what happened.

Where she is.

I pull out my phone and look around her backyard.

About 25 minutes later I want to give up.

As I leave I see something shine in the corner of my eye.

A ring.

Layla's promise ring to Brad.

It's thrown.

There's a million explanations to why this is here.

As I shuffle through the scenarios in my mind, one shocks me.

Is Brad her kidnapper?

I run home.

Trying to put the pieces together.

As I do, my mom runs in.

"Hayes turn on channel 54!" She says running back downstairs.

"Breaking news tonight. In the finding out Layla Roberts, we find out the Brad Chester, is also missing. Parent say they last saw him when he left to a party. He hasn't been home for 4 days.
If anyone knows anything please call our anonymous tip line. Detectives are on the case as we speak."

He could be the kidnapper. He could've done something.

I sit there in silence.

I look across to Layla's room.

"Where are you?"  I whisper to myself.
