Roman just stood there blushing as Virgil tried to get his friend to calm down. He found himself smiling at the way his new boyfriend was defensively arguing with the Hufflepuff, who was certain they were dating.
"You guys were holding hands!"
"N-No we weren't!"
"You stuttered!"
"What does that have to do with it?! I stutter all the time!"
"It means you're embarrassed! I.E. you're in love!"
"Paaatton!"The Gryffindor couldn't help it, he laughed. It was a genuine soft laugh. One that made Virgil and Patton stop what they were doing to look at him. As the Slytherin watched him laughing, a blush found it's way to his cheeks and his hair turned soft pink. Patton stole a glance at his friend, smiling wide at the state the boy was left in by a laugh.
He's definitely in love, the Hufflepuff thought with a smile. I couldn't be happier for him. He deserves this.
When Roman stopped laughing with a sigh, he walked over to Virgil. He smiled wide as he took his hand in his, causing the other to blush even brighter red. Patton gasped with the biggest smile on the planet.
"You know, you don't have to lie to your friend here," he said, placing a kiss to the back of his hand and looking up at him with his eyes. The Slytherin was a blushing mess as he tried to hide his face.
"F-Fine, y-yes we're d-dating Patton," he stuttered. The Hufflepuff squealed again, jumping up and down.
"It's about time you found someone Verge!" he said happily, causing his face become even darker red as Roman looked at him with a smile and a raised eyebrow.
"OH! It's about time I got someone huh? Well, how 'bout that Ravenclaw boy you've been crushing on since first year? How's that goin'?" he snapped with a smirk.
The Hufflepuff immediately blushed bright red and tried to hide it. "I-I d-don't k-know w-what you're t-talking about," he said nervously. Virgil smirked even more.
"Oh, what was that you just said? 'Stuttering means you're embarrassed which means you're in love'? Hmmm?"
"Uuuuuh I-I n-never said t-that!" Patton exclaimed, face gradually getting redder.
"Hmm, Roman? Did you hear that?" Virgil said, turning to his boyfriend. "He doesn't remember saying that. Surely you remember him saying that."
The Gryffindor nodded with a smirk in the Hufflepuff's direction. He laughed nervously. "F-Fine, y-yeah I have a crush on him, but he doesn't even know I exist so it's pointless," he said, face dropping a little by the end of the sentence. Guilt prickled through Virgil's skin, turning his hair kind of orange; he knew how strongly he felt for that Ravenclaw.
Roman had a thoughtful look on his face. "Do you know this Ravenclaw's name?"
He nodded, with a weak smile. "His name's Logan, but he's totally out of my league. Like, he's so smart and is always working in the library and-"
"Has a crush on a Hufflepuff."
Everyone went silent and looked at Roman with their jaws dropped. "W-What did you just say?" Patton asked.
"He's my best friend," Roman said, smirking as he recalled him. "He's absolutely terrible with emotions, but on more than one occasion, he'd come to me to just have someone to listen to him as he rambled on and on about them. From what I've heard from him, I can safely say that he has a crush, but doesn't know it. And come to think of it, it's on a Hufflepuff."
"O-Oh..." Patton said, his lip quivering a little as he bit it to hide it. Roman looked alarmed at his reaction.
"You didn't let me finish!" he exclaimed. "He's told me sooooo much about him, and the more I think about it, the more certain I am that it's you!"
"That's impossible," Patton said, frowning. "He doesn't even know I exist, and it could be any Hufflepuff in the school."
"Does every Hufflepuff in the school wear glasses, a cardigan and polo when not in uniform, have 'perfect brown hair', make 'adorably ridiculous jokes all the time', love cookies, is 'absolutely incredible in Care of Magical Creatures class', and 'can perform Transfiguration spells as though they were easy'?"
Patton's eyes kept getting wider and wider as he went on, and a big smile find its way onto Virgil's lips, knowing just how spot on those descriptions were of his friend. "H-How do you know all that?" the Hufflepuff asked, a light blush find its way to his cheeks once more.
"Logan told me," the Gryffindor said with a warm smile. "And judging by your reaction, I think my hunch was correct."
"Patton, Logan has a crush on you back!" Virgil exclaimed, hair turning yellow as he clapped his hands a little. The Hufflepuff's blush darkened as a wobbly smile spread across his face.
"M-Maybe," he said, rubbing the back of his neck. Roman laughed, putting a hand on his shoulder.
"Just talk to him," he said. "Find some way to talk to him, whether it's telling him a joke, or asking him about something for homework, or just introducing yourself. I promise you he likes you back."
Patton smiled wide. "O-Okay! Maybe I should go see if he's in the library!"
"He's always in there," Roman said rolling his eyes with a smile. "Now go!"
The Hufflepuff smiled again, turning and rushing off in the direction of the library. Virgil smiled wide as he watched his friend run off. When Roman turned back to him, the Slytherin smiled at him.
"W-What?" he said, blushing as he looked away. Virgil laughed a little before smiling, his hair turning soft pink.
"Thank you," he said. "He needed that."
Roman smiled, raising their hands so he could press another kiss to the back of his. "They're meant for each other, just like we are," he said smoothly, moving closer to him. The Slytherin blushed, tensing up a little at just how close he was. A chuckle from him as he moved away made him relax a little. "Come on, you were making me go to the Hospital Wing right?"
Virgil nodded as the started walking, still hand in hand, his hair a mix of light pinks, purples, and yellows.
