Virgil was frozen. He didn't know what to do as his heart raced in his chest. A wobbly smile found its way onto his face as tears started to spring to his eyes. He laughed a little as he reached up to wipe them away. His hair had turned bright yellow, soft blue, and pink.

"D-Did I do something wrong?" Roman asked worriedly.

The Slytherin quickly shook his head, leaning up to press his forehead to his. "No... I just haven't heard those words spoken to me in almost eleven years..." he whispered, moving his head to brush their nose tips together. "I love you too, Roman..."

His heart soared in his chest as he looked at him in shock and affection. The Gryffindor laughed in relief as he reached a hand up to caress Virgil's cheek gently. "I'm so glad I met you," he murmured, smiling. "I can't even imagine a world without you in it anymore."

Virgil returned his smile as he moved to fully embrace his boyfriend. They were silent for a little while until the Gryffindor spoke up again. "Hey Virge?" he began softly, getting his attention. He earned a hum in response, telling him to continue. "What did you mean by you haven't heard those words spoken to you in almost eleven years?"

The strands of the Slytherin's hair shifted to black in seconds, making Roman freeze up. He typically saw his hair turn black in negative scenarios. "You don't have to tell me that if you don't feel comfortable," he said quickly, guiding him to sit on a bench. Virgil bit his lip as he looked down. "Really, you don't have to-"

"No, you deserve to know who I am," he said, cutting the Gryffindor off. "I-I want to t-tell you, but it's really hard to t-talk about... maybe we could start with something easier?"

Roman thought for a moment, noticing the pale green strands in his hair as he fidgeted. "What do the colors of your hair mean?" he asked curiously. Virgil's eyes widened a little, shocked that someone had actually asked him. "Again, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to."

"Yellows typically mean happiness," the artist said softly. Roman immediately looked at him, surprised that he was answering such a personal question. "My hair typically turns yellow when I'm happy, which in case you haven't noticed, isn't very often..."

The Gryffindor frowned at that comment, rubbing his hand gently. "It's been turning yellow more lately though, thanks to you," he said with a small smile at his boyfriend, making his heart soar a little. "Pinks usually means love, or flustered, depending on the shade."

"What do you mean?" Roman asked curiously.

Virgil thought about it, not quite sure of how he could explain it. "When my hair turns dark pink, like almost red, it means I'm flustered, like I'm blushing," he explained, cheeks warming as he explained.

"Oh, like right now?" the Gryffindor asked with a smile smirk as he gestured to the strands of Virgil's hair as they turned dark pink and red. "That'll come in handy."

The Slytherin blushed at the sly wink, rolling his eyes as he tried to continue. "When it's softer pink, it's when I'm feeling love for someone..." he said shyly, looking up with a small smile.

Roman smiled wide, realizing how many times he'd seen soft pinks in his hair when interacting with himself. He leaned forward to bump there foreheads together briefly with a loving smile. "I'm glad to hear that," he said, looking into his boyfriend's eyes.

He smiled a little before continuing. "Purple is when I'm excited or having fun. Reds are typically anger as you'd assume," Virgil said, explaining some of the simple ones. "Orange happens when I get jealous, which normally is accompanied by reds."

The Slytherin paused to pick which color to explain next. "Blues and greens are trickier," he started. "When it's dark green, I'm feeling... like, healthy, as in my body physically feels good. When it's lime green, I'm sick or hurting. When it's pale green, I'm scared, and when it's brighter green, I'm surprised or confused."

He looked up to see if Roman was following along. The Gryffindor was frowning with concentration, but nodded in understanding. "I think I got it."

"Okay, then blues," Virgil said, fidgeting again. His hair had slowly started to become pale green and black, making Roman frown a little. "When it's sky blue, it means I'm at peace, like, I'm calm. When it's just blue, I'm worried. When it's deep blue, I'm sad or experiencing depressing thoughts."

That made Roman's heart sink, realizing he'd seen him with dark blue in his hair a lot. "Virgil..." he murmured quietly, squeezing his hand comfortingly. The Slytherin's hair had shifted to black, making his boyfriend glance at it before meeting his eyes. "And... black?"

Virgil sucked in a breath, tense until he heard Roman's voice gently ask him to look at him. His eyes kept him grounded as he explained. "Black is when I'm anxious, or self deprecating, or worse..." he murmured, not breaking eye contact with his boyfriend.

"Virgil..." he breathed, realizing just how much he'd seen his hair turn black. He reached up to brush his cheek as a single tear he wasn't aware had been falling. "I promise I'll use this knowledge you've trusted me with to help you. I'm so honored that you trust me with this information."

The Slytherin's hair turned pale yellow, pink, and purple as he smiled at his boyfriend. Roman smiled at that, now knowing what it meant. "I'm so thankful to have found someone I trust with this..." he said softly. "I've never told anyone what the colors mean, you're the first."

"I'm speechless honestly..." the Gryffindor replied, smiling. They were quiet for a moment before leaning into each other. Roman took the lead, but pressed his lips to Virgil's like he was scared he'd break if he kissed him too hard. The artist couldn't help be smile at that, grateful to have found someone who cared so much. When they pulled away, his boyfriend smiled at him. "I hope you know just how much I love you."
