Chapter 1: The Deal
The sound of my locker shutting in my face startled me. I then noticed my cousin with an evil grin on her face.
"You just transferred to my school and you're annoying me already." My cousin laughed and patted my shoulder.
"Aw, I didn't know you were afraid of lockers, Livvy." Emma fake pouted, she knew I hated that.
"Shut up, you know I'm not scared of lockers. What do you want?" I opened my locker again and took an energetic bar I had left there earlier in the morning.
"We both have a free period now and since I'm new here, I didn't want to be alone, I could get lost, you know. And I thought I could spend some time with my favorite cousin." She fake pouted again and I smacked her. She looked ridiculous, like a constipated duck, but it always worked.
"I thought Mia was your favorite cousin." She followed me outside and we sat in the bleachers to watch the basketball team training, they were preparing for a big game that was having place that evening. I couldn't care less about sports, but my friend Liam had made it to the team that year and he needed moral support.
"Are you jealous? I love you both" I laughed, shaking my head. There were plenty of reasons why I was jealous of my little sister, but my cousin's attention wasn't one of them.
"Why are you here? I know it's not because you want to spend time with me." It wasn't like we didn't see each other every day. Since she moved to my neighborhood, we saw each other even on the weekends, she should be sick of me.
"Okay, you caught me. I do like spending time with you though; you help me with my homework." She was two years younger than me and her homework was really easy for me, so whenever she asked for help, I always ended up doing all the work. "So I've been thinking..."
"What a shocker."
"Shut up. So as I was saying, I've been thinking about that thing you said the other day" I gave her a quizzical look. "The thing about me liking guys who aren't good for me." I nodded. She was only 15 and she always had crushes on older boys who also could be labeled as the bad boys, which led her to a lot of trouble.
"Well I have a crush on someone." School had started only two weeks ago and she already liked someone. It didn't surprise me though, she was like that. "His name is Noah, he's a good guy, but I'm going to need a little help if I want to get his attention." Noah was a sophomore, like Emma and he was on the basketball team, he was a really good player.
"And how am I supposed to help you with that?" She looked at the tall boy jogging with his teammates and then she looked at me.
"Well, since Liam is in the team now you could ask him if-"
"Nope, nopety, nope, no. I'm not bringing him into this. You can get him by yourself, it won't be that hard." She shook her head, giving me a pleading look.
"It is that hard. He is a popular guy and I'm just-" I held my hand up, interrupting her again.
"Let me stop you there. I don't know what kind of trashy movie you think this is, but honey, this is reality. There's not such a thing as the 'populars' and those basic bitches don't run our school. Of course we're not all friends and there are some bullies and some jerks here and there, but Noah is just a normal person and so are you, so go get him." Emma looked at me like I had just lectured her, which I kind of did, but she seemed to get it.
"Easier said than done." I face palmed, How could she be so blind? She was really pretty and smart and she could get any boy she wanted, but, like my sister, she could only see her imperfections.
"It's not. Just go for it." She shook her head, making her black bangs look messy.
"If it is so easy, why don't you do it?" I looked at her and raised an eyebrow. She couldn't be suggesting that...
"Do you want me to seduce Noah?" She smacked my arm looking slightly annoyed.
"Of course not. But there are other players in the team."
"I don't like them like that."
"You don't have to like them to seduce them."
"So you want me to make someone fall for me when I obviously don't have feelings for any of these guys."
"Come on, you know I can't do this on my own. I'll feel better if I know you're in this with me"
It was absolutely crazy, and I should've said no right away. But I didn't. I found myself considering it. I didn't want to play with someone's feelings, but I also wanted to help my cousin. Maybe she just needed a little push in the right direction. And it wasn't like I could make someone fall for me; I was the most awkward person in the school. Maybe if she saw me trying it she would try it too.
"Okay, I'll do it." She squealed and hugged me. "On one condition. You can't tell anyone, not even Mia." She nodded and hugged me again.
"Thank you! I knew I could count on you. Who's going to be the lucky guy? Is it going to be Liam?" I shook my head. When I said I didn't want to bring him into this, I meant it. He had suffered enough because of girls.
I looked around spotting familiar faces. Noah, Liam, Levi, James, Dean, Tyler, Jackson, Kyle, Daniel, David, Mark. Where was he? He wouldn't skip training. Just as the bell rang, signaling that my free period was over, I saw him running towards the basketball field.
"Connor."
