Chapter 3: A Wounded Nose And A Clever Plan

I was pretty sure everyone was looking at me. I felt something liquidy and warm running down my nose. Mia rushed down the stairs.

"Oh my, you're bleeding! Are you okay?" She handed me a paper tissue that I gladly accepted and I pressed it to my nose.

I saw Connor leaving and Kyle coming my way.

"I'm so sorry, I thought Tyler was gonna catch it." Tyler sent me an apologetic smile.

"It's fine, really." Kyle shook his head and he moved aside and I saw Connor was back, holding something on his hands.

"Here, have this." Connor lifted my chin and pressed a plastic bag with ice on my nose.

"I'll do it, you can keep training." Liam took the bag from Connor and he kept pressing it gently on my nose. Connor eyed him weirdly but then he shrugged and they started training again.

"I'm sorry. This wouldn't have happened if I didn't ask you to come early. They're not taking this seriously, they're just playing around." I placed my hands on his shoulders making eye contact with his bright blue eyes.

"You should relax and have fun, I know you want to win, but nobody's going to be disappointed in you or in them if you lose. So calm down and go, I can hold this." He nodded and the corner of his lips tugged up a little.

Everything went okay for the next hour, they were sitting on the bleachers now and Liam was telling us something about a friend he had in middle school, before he met us. Mia seemed to be having fun and I thought everything was going to be alright, until I received a message from Matt saying that he was taking Oliver to the hospital because he was having an allergic reaction. I knew Liam wasn't going to like that, but he could still count on Alex.

"Wow your nose is-." I didn't let him continue, I know what he was gonna say.

"I know." Alex kept staring at my nose with wide eyes.

"It's red!" I glared at him and Mia let out a chuckle

"I know!" My nose looked like a red potato, but at least it wasn't bleeding anymore

.

"Does it hurt?" He lifted his finger. He was about to touch my nose, when I swatted his hand away. "I'll take that as a yes. What happened?"

"A flying ball." Mia said, trying not to laugh.

"How are you, Ave?" The girl, who was now holding Alex's hand, smiled at me.

"I'm fine. I have a job now." Avery was Alex's girlfriend. She was two years older than him; they met on Avery's first year of college. After that she decided that she didn't want to go and she dropped out of college. "What about you?"

"I'm doing well. Charlie is fine too." Avery flinched a bit when I mentioned my brother's name. They used to be friends back in high school, but they hadn't seen each other since the incident.

We all sat down and waited a few minutes for the game to start. I had told Liam that Oli and Matt weren't coming. He freaked out and he said we should make sure Oli was fine, so we called Matt and he said everything was fine now.

When the game started I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around to see a happy Zoey with a poster that said: 'WE LOVE U, LIAM'

"What are you doing here? Did you sneak out? And how did you do that?" I said the last thing pointing at the poster she was holding.

"Mr. Andrews let me leave early because his nephew is playing and he didn't want to miss it either. And I got the idea for the poster from Teen Wolf, when Lydia... wait, what happened to your nose?" I was about to answer that when I saw Connor's brother, Sam.

I felt Mia tense up, meaning she saw him too. This was going to be a long night.

The game went pretty well, Matt and Oli showed up when the teams were having a break. That seem to lighten up the mood, but I was still pissed by Sam's presence, he was supposed to be in college, far away from us.

The final score was 5-2. We won, but the other team was really good too. We cheered for Liam and he gave Zoey, Mia and me a bear hug.

"Get away from me, you're sweaty!" Zoey whined, but she gave up and hugged him back.

"We're going to a party after dinner, do you want to come?" Liam asked, throwing his arm around my shoulders.

Alex looked at Avery and she nodded."Yeah, we're in."

"I'm not in the mood for a party, but I'm always in the mood for food, so can we go and have dinner now? I'm starving." Oli rubbed his tummy like a little kid, making us laugh. That was true, he was always hungry.

"I think I'm just gonna go. I'm really tired, I'll see you tomorrow." I hugged my friends and I turned to leave but Zoey stopped me.

"Sleepover? I know we have school tomorrow, but I'm sure my parents won't mind." I looked at Mia and she nodded.

"Okay, let's go." She said goodbye to our friends and then we left.

We went to her house and she took her bag and clothes. I told her she could borrow my clothes, but she reminded me that the last time she borrowed my clothes she accidentally kept them for a month.

When we got home, Emma was sitting on the couch watching a movie. Mia sat next to her and Zoey and I went up to my room.

"How's the trying to seduce Connor thing going?" I tried to throw a pillow at her, but I missed and it landed on the floor.

"I have no idea how I'm going to do that." Zoey took the pillow and threw it back.

"Of course you don't. But you're lucky you have a very clever best friend." She said, flipping her hair.

"I've always wondered why your head was so big, now I know it's because you needed space for that big ego of yours." She threw another pillow at me, hitting me on my wounded nose.

"Ouch! I'm sorry. You're a very clever girl with a very big head." She took another pillow and she waited for me to apologize. How come I didn't notice I had so many pillows?

"Try again." I sighed and gave her an innocent smile

"You are the bestest friend ever and you do not have a big head." She nodded, satisfied with what I just said

"Okay, so here's the plan..."
