I know my spirit has been through a lot
It's been crushed and brought up
It has been important or not even thought of
It has seemed to control my being, but also seemed to not be there
It has been strong and resistant, as well as fragile as a hair
It has driven me towards improvements
Or brought on my failures
One thing for sure, my spirit sure is peculiar
It has been encouraged to be free
At times though, told to stay deep inside me
It has always had its times
But also had its crimes
Even free spirits can be weak
They can even be crushed
It seems society's main goal is to bust
They say to be free but then they take the key
Your spirit then flees away and they're pleased
You see when it's broken, seemingly lost at sea
When you have lost your spirit is when it is free
