Dear sunflower,
Thank you for the memories.

Those kindergarten classes
Where I first learned to take care of a living thing,
It was you.

That plant I was amazed to watch grow,
And measured myself against every day,
It was you.

Those fields I ran through
Believing that I was a fairy from Neverland,
They were you.

Those same fields where I had my first kiss,
And had picnics next to with my boyfriend,
They were you.

The bright flowers which graced my wedding
And we're spread around the whole church,
They were you.

Those happy yellow faces painted on the walls
Of my new born baby's room,
They were you.

Those longs walks in the garden with my daughter and husband,
Where we would pick plants,
They were you.

Those flowers I sent to my baby girl when she went to college
So she could have a feeling of home,
Were you.

Those long stalks which sat on my desk
After long days of working,
They were you.

Those small plants which I raised every year,
Even long after my knees were arthritic,
Were you.

Those flowers which I placed on my husband's grave
For years after he passed,
Were you.

Those big vases my daughter brought me to make me smile
When I was old and losing my sight,
They were you.

And those same flowers which scattered the church
As well as my grave once I had passed
Were you.

It was always you.

So thank you,
For all my life's greatest memories.
