The satiation from the plethora of ants is starting to wear off, so I grab some of the berries from earlier out of my pocket, and pop them into my mouth. As I chew, I start to remember every survival book I have ever read where the main character eats some berries, but they turn out to be poisonous. I immediately spit out the berries. I continue to think about the berries, and a memory comes to mind off how in the end of one book, it showed the difference between poisonous and edible berries. I try to get as much out of the memory as I can, and I remember it saying:
"Stay away from white or yellow berries."
My berries are magenta.
"Consult a field guide for reference photos."
Not too sure I can do that...
"Eat just one or two of the berries..."
Can do.
"Wait at least two hours for the berries to digest in case you have a reaction to the fruit..."
I pop two of the berries in my mouth, and chide myself for spitting them out at first, but I am also a bit proud that I hadn't just gone along blindly.
I walk on, not eating any more berries or anything else for a while that seems like 2 hours.
