Monstrous Choices

Chapter 7

It was the welcoming ceremony that had all the pack members chatter in excitement.

Kayla is finally home, safe and sound.

Or so they thought.

The elders were cooking the feast, filled with chicken and beef and all sorts of dishes that no one even knew the name of. The young ones were setting up picnic tables and playing football with the children.

The guest of honor was upstairs getting ready with the twins, Olivia and Jake. Olivia have made herself the hair dresser and makeup artist for young Kayla and Jake decided that he should supervise and make sure that Kayla did not cause any mischief.

Kayla was distracted and didn't think twice about the substances that Olivia was putting on her face and did not even hear Jake's loud smacking lips as he chewed on the gum that is slowly evaporating in his mouth. She was too busy thinking of one creature that smelled so human.

His dark eyes haunted everywhere she looked. She could not get away from them.

She cleared her throat and ended up looking at Olivia. Olivia was tall, and lean. With blonde hair and blue eyes.

" Can you tell me about mates?" Kayla asked. " I heard a lot of people talking about it."

Olivia stopped what she was doing and glanced at Jake for a second and then sighed.

" A mate is like your soulmate, they're made for you specifically. We usually meet them at sixteen. The packs hold a feast and invite other packs to find your mate. Sometimes we don't find them until we are older." She said.

" They can be of any species too, they don't have to be a werewolf like you. They can be human or a vampire or anything." Jake added.

" How about a siren?" Kayla asked.

" I haven't read any cases where someone was mated to a siren. I don't think sirens actually have mates they just exist to survive and be with their own kind, I guess. " Jake stated, giving her a confused look.

" are there any cases where sirens can mask their scent with a humans?" Kayla asked again.

" No they can't. They can only lure people in with their voices nothing else." Olivia answered.

" What happened out there, Kayla?" Jake asked hesitantly.

" Nothing!" She hurriedly exclaimed.

   She did not know how much information she should reveal about her life in the ring. Judah would not be pleased to have that information passed around through the pack house, she knew that for sure.

    The twins stared at her for a long time before they shrugged their shoulders and continued their work. Kayla sighed mentally.

   Later that night everything was going as planned. Everyone was having fun. Kayla found herself loosening up until she remembered the last time she loosened up and stiffened.

     The image of her real human family ran across her mind and she wanted it to stop. She swerved from side to side looking for a distraction, but she kept hearing her parents' voice telling her ce sera bientôt fini ma fille.

    No.

    Everything now was upside down and she could not catch her breath. She clawed at her throat, trying so hard to catch her breath. Then everything went black.
