Amanda's POV
"All up in my nerves! She's so annoying and overbearing!" Desiree scoffed at Daniel's words. I couldn't believe he just said that. This is his mate we are talking about?
Why is he being so rude to the one person who would love and care for him unconditionally? I could see the love in his eyes every time he looks at her. I always see him catching glances at her when she's not looking. He adores everything about her,
"Then it's a good thing that you only have to be with me for 3 months. We'll be free of eachother then. Good riddance." The way Desiree spoke made me stare at her. She spoke with such sincerity and honesty in her voice. There was no acting when she spoke those words.
That seemed to knock some sense into Daniel. I could see the silent turmoil going on in his brain. He was sad, hurt, and distraught. He too heard the sincerity in her voice. Daniel looked at her with such anger but what most didn't see was the slight plead in his eyes.
As his older sister, I was the person whom he confided with. When I found my mate and moved in his pack with the permission of his alpha, things changed for Daniel. He suddenly stopped contacting me and now he barely even talks to me.
But I thank the Moon Goddess that I have a mate that cares for my brother. The only reason I knew Daniel even had a mate was from him telling Aaron.
Watching Desiree pick up her plate and go into kitchen, I glare at Daniel as his eyes meet mine.
Deciding to give him a piece of my mind, I mind linked to him.
Talk to her. You were very rude. There was no need to be like that.
I could tell he was ignoring my command. The way he just shrugged his shoulders slightly as he took a sip of water aggravated me. His eyes stared at me for a fraction of a second before he went back to eating.
Someday, you are going to regret treating her like this. You're gonna push her to the point she won't return. No matter what happy moments you will have together, she'll always remember how you pushed her away. Someday, you are going to break her and when you do, no matter what you do- it'll be too late. She'll be so broken that she can't be fixed.
Informing my family that I was full, I went into the kitchen to see Desiree cleaning her dish. I sighed as I see her bring her arm to wipe her face. Putting my plate in the sink, I removed her hands from the dishes she was cleaning, turned her around, and wrapped her in my arms. She instantly fell limp in my arms as she began to cry silently.
"Hey, don't cry. I know you don't understand why you are feeling this way. I get it. You must be so confused why the smallest things he does affect you so much. I want to explain things. I do. I just need to know that you're ready for it. When you do, come to me with any question. I'll have the answer." I said to her in a soothing voice. She has only been with me for a few hours but she feels like the younger sister I wish I had.
Sure I had a younger sister, but she was always on team Daniel. With Desiree, it felt like I had a sibling I could finally bond with. To me, Desiree was my sister- no matter how stupid Daniel was being.
Desiree lifted her head up and I nodded in understanding. She wanted to be alone. I rubbed her arms before letting her go. She walked out the kitchen and went up the stairs, tears falling with each step she made as my heart broke little by little for her.
Daniel walked in his eyes locking with mine, "You don't understand what I'm going through."
I glared at him. "Actually, I do. You are pushing her away, that's a fact."
"I can't allow the bond to grow. If something happens to her, if I lose her, I won't be able to forgive myself! I must refrain before I scare her. She isn't a werewolf!" Daniel was torn. I understood what he was coming from. I felt the same way when I first met Aaron, but I learned the hard way that pushing them away doesn't help. It only makes the situation worse.
"Daniel, you know dang well that she isn't human. I feel it. I feel the wolf presence in her. She probably is a hybrid. One of her parents was human while the other was a wolf. You can't just shut her off because she isn't like us!" Anger was consuming my very being. How could he keep something like this from me? How could he go through this alone?
Say it. Tell me the truth. I am the only one that truly knows what you are going through.
"Amanda, please. You don't understand. You can't help me no one can. I can't lose her by telling you or anyone what I'm going through." Tears filled those eyes that used to be so open with me.
It was at this moment that I knew. There was something more to this. And I refused to allow him to lose the only person who can complete him.
