"What is her problem?" I growl, the bell signalling the end of the day had just rung and it was my first chance to catch up with Izzi and Rachel.

"Honestly? We don't know! One minute she was really nice, which is why she is so popular, the next she is queen bitch of the century!" Rachel sighs, running a hand through her chin length hair.

"She makes life hell. Actually she makes hell seem nicer." Izzi laughs, I could feel some tension in the air, though I wasn't sure why. We get outside and I see Willis parked on the edge of the lot. I start to walk over when a hand grabs my arm.

"Wanna come to Reggies with us? It's where everyone goes after school!" Izzi smiles at me in such a nice way that I immediately say yes.

"Let me just tell Willis okay?" The girls nod as they slip in to a red soft top. I weave through the thick crowds to wear Willis is sat reading a magazine.

"Ah Miss Stevenson, wondered where you got to!" He grins at me and puts his magazine down.

"Willis, I've been invited to go somewhere with these girls from my grade, is it okay if they drop me home later?" I bat my lashes.

"And what is this place you will be going to?" He raises an eyebrow.

"Reggies?"

"Hmm okay then, I will tell Ma'am, don't be out too late. Have fun!" He smiles and starts the car, I jump back as he pulls out and speeds off. Wow, he was eager!

I walk back to Izzi and Rachel, the crowds had thinned out now. Everyone was either gone or at some club. The two girls were standing outside again.

"I call shotgun!" I shout and leap in the front seat, I hear Rachel laugh as Izzi crawls into the back seat, kicking my chair as she goes. We pull out and drive down the highway, I can see the beach from my window and sigh, feeling the salty breeze on my face. We come into a pier which is filled with surf shops, small boutiques and cafe's. Rachel parks and we all climb out, it wasn't possible but it had seemed to get hotter the further we walked.

"This place better have air conditioning!" I moan, wiping the sweat off my forehead. The girls roll their eyes and reasure me it is nice and cool in Reggie's. When we get there I see it's on the sand, a big, round, wooden hut. It was open at the front with the seating all on a deck and in the sand, teenagers wear occupying lots of the seats and milling around in the sand, some were even in the sea! All the girls were tanned with beach blonde hair, their bodies skinny and toned. I felt so out of place with my pale english skin.

"Everyone seems really relaxed?" I say, noticing how no one was tense like they had been in the cafeteria. Izzi nods.

"That's cause Rosalind isn't here, she's got cheerleading practise."

"Let me guess, she's the head cheerleader?" I roll my eyes, the girls look sheepish and I laugh," it's all so cliché here! I didn't realise how realistic the films are!" Rachel looks confused at me.

"What do you mean, realistic?"

"Well I've watched loads of teen films about american high school but I always thought they exagerated things, I guess they don't." I shrug and smile.

"OH! Yeah, it's actually kinda embarrassing," Izzi laughs and we go sit at a table on the edge of the deck.

"Can you grab me a soda please? And some fries, Jan as to try them!" Rachel grins, patting my hand.

"Sure, what do you want?" Izzi asks me, I shrug.

"Surprise me?" She nods and gets in line to order.

"What's so great about the fries here?" I ask Rachel, who grins even wider.

"They're the best in town!" She laughs and sweeps her hair back. She waves at someone behind me, Daniel and Johann suddenly appear, and pull up some chairs. They're both holding cans of mountain dew.

"Ooo, Hottie at three o'clock. Ladies, he's straight," Johann grins and motions with his eyes. I look behind me and see who he's pointing at, the boy is cute, playing volley ball with a group of people.

"How do you know he's straight?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.

"Because my Sweet Pie, if he were gay he would already be over here begging for like, my hand in marraige!" He giggles and pushes his ray-bans over his eyes, checking out the cute guy.

"And Johann asked him out Freshman year, he told him he had a girlfriend," Daniel laughs and smacks Johann on the back, I see him wince and shuffle away.

Izzi bounces back to the table and puts down two lemonades and a bottle of what looked like beer in front of me.

"Root beer, ever had it?" She asks, handing Rachel her drink.

"I swear we can't drink alcohol?" I question sniffing it.

"Oh god Jan! You crack me up!" Johann giggles again," it is not actual beer beer, no alcohol, completely legal!" I smile and take a sip.

"Ew!" I spit it out on the floor," it tastes like antiseptic! How could you drink that?" I ask, wiping my mouth with the back of my hand.

"It needs some getting used to," Izzi says apologetically, here, have my lemonade. I for one love root beer!" She smiles and takes the bottle out of my hand replacing it with her glass.

Someone comes over and places a huge basket full of french fries in front of us, they look and smell amazing.

"Time to try the best fries in town!" Rachel grins.
