We walked outside to meet with our parents and wait for the Crystal Moon pack to show. I fidgeted with my dress. To be completely honest I really disliked dressing up, but it was a thing of life. "You look great," Nik said, coming up behind me. Max and he came up so they were flanking me on either side. I rolled my eyes. Even though I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself the boys still felt the need to protect me. Hence why they were currently flanking me instead of having Nik in the middle since he was the future Alpha like most packs would do. Steela and Nima stood on the other side of their brothers.
"Thank you," I told them, looking up at both of them. The Gamma blood in my system made me bigger than most she-wolves, but I was still small compared to the two of them. They both looked dashing in their black tuxes. They refused to wear any suits that were any color besides black so their sisters went all out with their ties and the pocket tissue things that went in the front pocket of their suits. I didn't know why they wouldn't wear anything except black, but over the years I've learned masculinity is a fragile thing, and apparently, colors were too "feminine."
The girls had put Nik in a white, gray, and black granite tie with a red vine pattern. Max was in a navy blue tie with a golden floral pattern. Each of them had the matching pocket tissue as well. We didn't normally dress up this nice for an Alpha visit, but given how long it had been since anyone had set eyes on the Crystal Moon pack we had to set a good example.
Before any more conversation could start two black vans pulled up in front us. The windows were tinted, and most likely shatterproof. It was nearly impossible to guess which van the Alpha was in; which I supposed was the point of the whole endeavor. After the attack on the Crystal Moon pack, all Alphas had beefed up security around the borders and when traveling. Since the Crystal Moon pack had been the one directly affected it made sense that they would go to higher extremes to keep their Alpha safe.
The backseat of the first van opened and a woman in a tux and combat boots stepped out. She had two fishtail braids down her head that went into a tight bun at the base of her skull.
What? She's in a tux? She looks so badass! Can I wear a tux? I asked in a mindlink.
No! Steela and Nima said automatically. I huffed and the boys chuckled under their breaths.
Temperamental female wolves. The boys snorted like they were trying not to laugh and cause a scene. We still caught the attention of the Luna who turned around and glared at us. We all averted our gaze from her. I suddenly found my nails very interesting.
"Hello Alpha Lucas," the women said, breaking us all out of our thoughts. "I'm Beta Mills. I would like to thank you for allowing us onto your land." Her tone was that pleasantness that one usually gets from a cashier or businesswoman. Practiced and led you to believe she did not want to be here.
All the girls were bubbling with excitement. The Beta was a female? Usually, the highest position given to a female was Gamma. That was because there had never been a female Alpha and the Beta was usually the Alpha's best friend. They were almost always male too. But there had been a couple exceptions. It was still very rare.
"It was our pleasure," Alpha Lucas said, shaking her outstretched hand. He also had a businessman-like tone. Most of these visits usually started with hugs or glares and every kid's dreaded phrase "I haven't seen you since you were this big" and a motion toward the knee, accompanied by a comment about how big we've all gotten. But since these relationships we were trying to build were new everyone was sizing each other up for the first time.
More doors of the vans opened, and out stepped the pack's warriors, and my jaw almost dropped to the ground. They were all Girls! With the exception of one or two men. And while they were slimmer bulk-wise they still looked big enough to take down some of our male warriors. And I honestly really wanted to see them do it.
The most intoxicating smell I've ever smelt wafted in from the open door of the second black van the visiting pack had come in. My wolf, Sylvia, was going crazy in my head, the smell setting her on edge. Want to explain to me what's wrong? I asked through our link. I got silence in return. Stupid moody wolf. She didn't even roll her eyes at me. That set me more on edge than the smell.
When I refocused on the scene in front of me one of the Female warriors was holding her hand to help someone out of the van. When they stepped out it was the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. She was the only one not wearing a tux, though the blood red and black dress she was wearing made her look more lethal and stunning than she already did. Her black heels only adding to this effect that had my wolf howling in my head.
Beta Mills had turned to the approaching woman. Mills bowed her head in respect which caused some raised eyebrows from our pack. Was this their Luna? If so, where was their Alpha?
The woman smiled, shaking hands with Lucas. "Hello, Alpha Lucas. I trust my Beta was pleasant enough with her introductions," she said. We all froze. Her Beta?? That means she's the...
"The Crystal Moon Alpha," Steela gasped, breaking me from my thoughts. She made sure to keep her voice to a whisper. "It's not a he-"
"It's a she," Max finished for her. We all stood in awe. A female Alpha? That was unheard of. No female had ever been Alpha. Ever. It was always the firstborn son.
The Alpha cocked her head, sniffing the air before turning to look directly at me. Mate! Mate! Mate! Mine! Mate! I had completely forgotten about the smell from earlier. Now my wolf, Sylvie, was going crazy in my head, screaming at me to get closer to our mate, but I was rooted to my spot. My Mate was an Alpha. Not just any Alpha. The first and only Female Alpha.
"And she's my mate," I muttered lowly.
