a tale of an unfortunate existance

this is the tale
of the girl
whose life went wrong
at every turn.

she had fought
tooth and nail
to keep a foothold—
and cling to her heartbeat

she couldn't catch a break
or a breath
without being swept away again.

the winds of the world tore at her
always
relentlessly
and when they died down;
it began to rain,
soaking into her bones.

"what doesn't kill you makes you stronger,"
they said, in their perfect houses
living perfectly flawed lives—
but what didn't kill her
just wore her down.

her focus had been shifted slightly to the right
and had sent her tumbling into her brain—
it was a frightening place.

she was criticized
for everything she did
for who she was—
for being average
for being extraordinarily
for being alive.

her personality was a sin
her body was a cage
her mind was a drug.

but there was still light in her life
no matter how much darkness clouded—
she still felt sparks.
she looked forward to living,
even when others didn't share her enthusiasm.

she felt cheated;
why did she have to fight so hard?
why wasn't she happy enough?

eventually she came to the conclusion
that life was unfair.
and it seemed like it would stay that way.

the end
