Nova and Optimus were doing recon at Western Montana becoz Ratchet asked Nova to go with him to test if she can really sense energon. Nova has never gone some places so she decided to go. They wandered through the sparse wood neither saying anything for a few minutes. It was her first time seeing a forest before, she has never been to places since ever. That's when her hair glowed bright under her hood as she called, "Uh, Optimus?"
"Yes Nova." He looked down at the distraught human girl, yet somehow she was more than that. She wasn't just a human but he didn't know what.
"I think the Energon is behind us."
Optimus look at his scanner, it didn't find anything, "Well I don't scan anything but it wouldn't hurt to check." They turned around and began walking again. Sure enough Optimus soon received a faint Energon signature, "How did you know it was behind us?"
"My hair happen to glow whenever I sense it. Beside, I felt it behind me not in front of me." Nova explained, as her hair dimmed out. They walked a few more minutes and the wind began picking up, it was cold but not terribly so. Nova closed her eyes and breathed in the child air, it was unlike from Jasper. She was never outside from her home before. "Are you warm enough Nova?" Optimus asked, he always heard the children complaining with the temperature dropped below fifty degrees. Nova said, tugging her coat, "I'm perfectly fine, I like the cold. Unlike Jack, Miko, and Raf, I'm used to the cold temperature even though I sleep outside."
Optimus shook his head as they searched around the area. "Optimus," Nova asked him softly, wanting to ease the tension. "Who were you before you were the leader?" There was a pause before he answered. "That's quite a broad question, Nova," he said. "What brought this up?"
"I don't know.....I was just wondering."
"I was a clerk in Iacon's Hall of Records," he said. Nova could feel the pride in his voice as he spoke of his past. "I spent my time researching all the recorded history that we had." Nova asked him."You like history?"
"I like learning of the past and being able to apply them to the future," he softened. "Maybe if I had researched better --"
"Don't even say it," Nova demanded softly, placing a hand on his leg. "The war is not your fault." She doesn't know why she say that, she couldn't help but pity him for not able to save their planet. She wasn't suppose to care but at least she showed pity. Both of them were silent as they continue on looking around the area. "What about you?" he finally asked after a while. "Who were you before...."
"I was homeless?"
He was silent again, confirming her answer. "I was no one. I was just a kid who has no memories of my past. A girl whose been fighting for her own survival." Nova said boldly. He seemed to be processing her words in greater detail, but eventually he said, "Nova, it has been on my processor for some time but I have been curious to know where did you learn the phrase "'Til all are one?" Ever since you first said it to me before myself and the others went to face Megatron, I have been curious to know you knew this phrase."
It was yet another unexpected question. She think she should just from now on start expecting the unexpected from the Leader of the Autobots. It seemed like a common thing with him. She tried to recall where she had heard it from but the memory was fuzzy. No scratch that, she was drawing a complete blank. Eventually, she sighed and shook her head. "I'm sorry Optimus. I honestly don't know where I picked that up from. What does it mean?"
"It used to be a rallying cry," he rumbled, "meaning "until the end of the Great War", but now it just means "until all are rejoined into the Allspark of Primus.""
"I see." Honestly, Nova wanted to asked more but decided to stop. As silence came from both of them, They reached a small clearing and found small blue rocks littering the ground, Optimus then opened a com link, "Optimus to base, we have found the source of the energy blips. Prepare for excavation." A ground bridge opened and BumbleBee, Bulkhead, and Arcee came through while Nova went back to base. They spent the remainder of the time helping the Autobots with the Energon, though being humans there wasn't much they could do save staying out of the way, except Campy who is snoozing on the couch. To help keep the kids to stay out of the way, they began teaching Nova a card game, Go Fish. It was going well when Ratchet announced, "It's six o' clock, you kids should be returning home."
