Chapter Two

"Think you got enough?" Steve asks as some nurses draw some more blood from his arm.

"Probably," I answer, smiling. "Any hope of reproducing the program is locked in your genetic code. Without Doctor Erskine it would take years."

"He deserved more than this," he replies, walking over to where I'm standing with a clipboard.

"If it could work only once he'd be proud it was you."

I'm proud it was him.

The sound of Colonel Phillips' voice reaches my ears, and I nod to Steve to follow me, before heading down to him and a few other men.

I hear them talking about Hydra, and how they don't know what it is.

"Hydra is the Naiz deep science division. It's lead by Johann Schmidt, but he has much bigger ambitions."

"Hydra is practically a cult," Phillips continues. "They worship Schmidt, they think he's invincible."

"What are you gonna do about it?"

Hopefully kill some Nazis.

"I spoke to the President this morning," Phillips says, walking toward me. "As of today the SSR has been re tasked."

"Colonel?" I ask.

"We are taking the fight to Hydra. Pack your bags Agent Carter, you too Stark, we're flying to London tonight."

Joy.

"Sir, if you're going after Schmidt I want in," Steve tells Phillips.

"You're an experiment, you're going to a lab."

"Sir, the serum worked."

"I asked for an army and all I got was you. You're not enough."

He's better than nothing idiot.

"With all due respect to the Colonel, I think we may be missing the point," the other man says. "I've seen you in action Steve, more importantly the country's seen it."

I don't like where this is going.

"Paper," be orders the other man.

Wow.

"The enlistment lines have been around the block since your picture hit the news stands. You don't take a soldier, a symbol like that, and hide him in a lab. Son, do you wanna serve your country? On the most important battlefield of the war?"

I snicker, I lied, I love where this is going.

"Sir, that's all I want." Steve replies.

"Congratulations," he offers Steve his hand. "You've just been promoted."

He's going to help sell war bonds.

Sucks to suck.

~~**~~

I frown from the back of the crowd as all the men start yelling and throwing things at Steve, who's dressed up in a terrifying costume.

And that's coming from me.

I usually wear capes and lavish armor.

Once the stupid show is over, I decide to go and find him. I make it under a tent just as it starts poring down rain.

"Hello Steve," I say, walking up to him.

"Hi," he says, looking up at me.

"Hi," I reply.
