Chapter Five
Slowly but surely, we wipe all the factories off the map. I wanted to go in with Steve's team, but he wouldn't let me. Some bullshit about not wanting me to get hurt.
He at least lets me do the honors of taking each factory off our map.
I sit next to Phillips as we watch a movie of his actions. He pulls out a small compass with a picture of me in the top of it.
Phillips looks over at me as my cheeks time a bright shade of crimson, and a small smile plays on my face.
I admit that every time he does off on a new mission, I'm scared he won't come back. I'm scared for all of them sure, but mostly him.
The mission they capture Doctor Zola on, one of them doesn't come back.
Bucky.
I make my way through a destroyed part of London, and find Steve sitting alone, drinking, in a mostly destroyed bar. The very same bar he was in with Bucky not too long ago.
"Doctor Urskine said that this wouldn't just affect my muscles, it would affect my cells. Create a protective system of regeneration in a human. Which means, uh, I can't get drunk. Did you know that?"
He takes a sip from a bottle of some type of alcohol, I can't be bother to figure out what type.
"Your metabolism burns four times faster than the average person. He thought it could be one of the side affects." Steve sighs and looks down at the ground.
"It wasn't your fault," I console him.
"Did you read the report?"
"Yes."
"Then you know that's not true."
But it is. It's not his fault the guy shot at Bucky and knocked him off the train. Steve tried.
"You did everything you could," I tell him. "Did you believe in Bucky? Did you respect him? Then stop blaming yourself. He knew the severity of his choice. He damn well must have thought you were worth it."
"I'm going after Schmidt. We're not gonna stop 'till all of Hydra's dead or capture."
"You won't be alone," I tell him.
I plan on fighting with him until the last breath.

"Johann Schmidt belongs in a bug house," Colonel Phillips starts. "He thinks he's a god and he's willing to blow up half the world to prove it. Starting with the USA."
"Schmidt's working with powers beyond our capabilities," Howard says, sitting down at the table in front of the map.
Yeah, it's call the Tesseract and it's a bastard.
"He gets across the Atlantic, he will wipe out the entire eastern seaboard in an hour."
Probably less.
"How much time we got?" One of Steve's men asks.
"According to my new best friend," Zola, "Under twenty four hours."
"Where is he now?" Another person asks.
"Hydra's last base is here," Phillips answers, pointing to a picture. "In the alps, five hundred feet below the surface."
"What are we supposed to do?" The same guy as before asks. "It's not like we can just knock on the front door."
"Why not?" Steve pipes up. Everyone turns to face him. "That's exactly what we're gonna do."
The meeting adjourns for a few minutes, and I get a chance to go talk to Steve.
"I want in," I tell him. "I don't wanna hear any of your bullshit about me getting hurt. I'm not going to get hurt. I'm helping you take down this bastard whether you like it or not."
He smiles at me, "Good, because I'm going to need your help."
